Here is an assortment of shots from New York's Central Park Zoo. The very large. The polar bears have gigantic paws! The very small. The leaf cutter ants are farmers who grow edible fungus from the leaves. The underwater. A puffin caught swimming submerged. The rescued. A cayman captured from the CP lake where he was foolishly released as a pet and now housed in the Children's Zoo. I forget his name. The hungry. Penguins waiting for their human slaves to hand feed them. The very hungry. Pot-bellied pig devouring his Halloween pumpkin.

Good pics, DF. There was a nice shot in the Daily News this morning of one of the Bronx Zoo's Siberian tigers enjoying a romp in the snow.

I know all these guys too. I thought the pot-bellied pig was a female though Don't know; never thought about it. Feel free to check anytime. I merely used the pronoun"his" owing to my latent sexism! ;D Dammit, I wish I could recall the cayman's name. . . next time I (or you) drop by, check it out. I suppose you know polar bears have black skin under that white fur. Whatever works for them. One day I will walk through there - and actually see the red panda moving!

Well, the cute Ace Ventura-looking caretaker who was petting her the last time I was there called her a she, which is the only reason I knew it. Had he been ugly, I probably wouldn't remember her sex ;D That pot-bellied pig sure is pot-bellied!!!

Good pics, DF. There was a nice shot in the Daily News this morning of one of the Bronx Zoo's Siberian tigers enjoying a romp in the snow. Now, now, don't tantalize us. Post an image or a link! I just looked at their site but the banner "Cats Show Mean Streak" actually refered to the Carolina Panthers getting ready for the Super Bowl. ;D Tiger Mountain is the new exhibit there for those animals at the Bronx Zoo. You can really get a close up view of the tigers, which was impossible before, especially after September when that sky ride thing closed; it went right over their secluded compound. Ahhh, here we go. . . I suppose I'll start a Bronx Zoo thread soon. The Autumn foliage there is gorgeous. That, Green-wood Cemetery, and the NY and Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, are my favorite places (of a Nature type) in the region. G-W, btw, is a great place for bird watching, also.

Had he been ugly, I probably wouldn't remember her sex ;D That pot-bellied pig sure is pot-bellied!!! I only saw cute female caretakers there every time I went. Go figure. OK, she's a she! They supposedly make great pets though, but I hope they are potty trained. I do wonder about methane and flatulence from them. . .
