National Pig Day. The 1st of March is set aside especially for pigs. It was started by Texas art teacher Ellen Stanley in 1972 to honour and give thanks to our most intelligent domesticated creature. On this day, remember the good things pigs have brought to us; remember that pigs are sociable, intelligent mammals. They are much like us in many ways, they have noticable personality traits and soaring emotions. You might want to visit a farm sometime in March for a day out (with the kids) and pay your respects to these marvelous animals. If you have never handled a pig before, or even seen one in the flesh, I think you will be pleasently surprised at their nature. Take a detailed look at the way a pigs live; how they eat, sleep, and interact with one another. It's very good fun and interesting. A couple of oranges is a lovely treat for a pig. There are also many indoor activities you can do to celebrate pig day. First of all, try and stick to a pink theme for the day (clothes, decorations, paper plates etc.), you can play pin the tail on the pig; and why not create your own version of The Three Little Pigs as a group by taking turns making up each part of the story. PIGSBTW, I do NOT eat pork or pork products.

I bet the Texan who started Pig Day eats pigs! My uncle has some pigs - unfortunately they will end up in my relatives' stomachs.

Pigs are as smart as dogs, and I could not take pork anymore after reading the descriptions of the horrific nearly human-like screams from pigs in the Chicago slaughterhouses before they were even touched - they knew what was coming. Oh. I had a California Cobb salad at McDonalds this week - one of the few ostensibly healthy things there. Quite tasty, but there were bacon bits for flavoring. If they were REAL bacon bits I have consumed pork lately, but maybe they were artificial bits. . . to the McD's site. . . >> Bacon bits: Cured with water, salt, smoke flavoring, sodium phosphate, seasoning [gum acacia, smoke flavor, maltodextrin, hydrolyzed corn protein, natural flavor (vegetable source), autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed corn, wheat, and soy protein, modified cornstarch, contains less than 2% of disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate, natural flavor (vegetable oil), salt, succinic acid, xanthan gum], sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite. << Well, it was real bacon. So I guess I have consumed pork products lately. i suppose the Bacon Ranch salad surely has bacon. Whenever I eat a Caesar Salad I think of that scene from "I Love Lucy" where she tried to grow hair on Rickey.
