Last October, a reporter for the NY Post decided to do a story on how easy it is to buy exotic animals like lions, tigers (and bears, oh my!) in the states. This lead to a horrible stunt where the reporter and an animal activist he was using as a source bought an 8-day-old lion cub. The cub was too young to be separated from his mother and nearly died. The reporter dumped the sickly cub at a place called Noah's Lost Ark and disappeared back to NYC. Another NY paper found out what had happened and started a campaign among its readers to raise funds to care for the cub. The cub was saved, the reporter and co-horts were put through the ringer and all seemed well. The cub was even reunited with his sister and both have been living at Noah's Lost Ark. Now an Ohio judge has ruled that the activist is entitled to custody of the cub. The man says he plans to send the cub to Tippi Hedron's preserve in California (which is where they claimed they were taking the cub when they first bought him) but why he feels he has to do that now when the cub is happy, healthy and with family is beyond me. I hope there's an appeal and I hope the cub gets to stay with his sister.

Yea. Same here. Where's PeTA? I read that story today, and it just gets tiring to read articles in the News ragging on the Post, and vice versa.

Yeah, I hope that cub gets to stay in with his sister. I hate it when a person buys an exotic animal, then they let it go when its an adult. Well what do they expect..the animal is going to grow up!!
DF-I have my PETA magazine here & unless they moved their company it says their from Norfolk, Va.
You guys should see what's in this magazine, oh my gosh...lets just say I don't know how I kept on reading those articles.

. . . DF-I have my PETA magazine here & unless they moved their company it says their from Norfolk, Va. . . . Yuck, yuck. So why don't they GET INVOLVED in issues like this, or did they? I remember at the Brooklyn Museum several years ago there was this notorious Sensations exhibit. I was most offended by the cut up and pickled animals on display. All PeTA ever did was have one person show up, read a pro forma meaningless statement mildly in disfavor of it - and then vanish.

Well that was wrong of them to do! I know they have done a lot of stuff b/c it names what they did in their magazine & in their newsletters. Maybe they got better.
I've been hearing that Iams has been doing some cruel things to dogs & cats. Have you guys heard about this?

I have heard of what Iams does, or did do I heard they don't do it anymore. I don't know for sure if they had stopped or not. I had stopped buying Iams about a year ago when I had found out about that. I refuse to support a company that does that or even did do that. I know have Daisy on Wellness, and the Socks (the cat) on Solid Gold. Cognac

DF--they say that they have put them in small cages & have done such abuse to them that isn't right. Its sort-of (I would say) a combination of a puppy mill that does experiments on animals. Try imagining that & I think thats what their doing.

They must be pretty stupid. That kind of stuff gets out to dog lovers and they will be losing a lot of business, or so I hope.

Number 1 Iams (along with Science Diet) aren't great foods, they are mediocre, they are better than Ole' Roy, Dad's, Dog Chow, and the majority of food that you can get in a grocery store. Iams was/is making wounds on dogs and cats (I'm sure all ages), one group of wounded animals was put on cheap cheap food, the others were put on Iams, trying to prove which animals would heal faster. If they would have put a small amount on people food (not junk people food) they would have healed even faster; if they would have put some animals on high quality food (Wellness, Solid Gold, California Natural, Wysong, etc. they would have healed faster. Iams never should have done experiments like that. I buy nothing from the Iams/Eukanuba company. I will not support that. The ignorant will and the apathetic will. Cognac

What happens if where you work they pay for Iams to be sold to customers and you know that its wrong? What do you do? Best Friends Pet Care gets Iams a lot & I saw that they had it & remembered the article in the magazine & what you said Cognac. I'm kinda shy, so how do I go about telling them its bad & that they should stop?

I would say find the articles that talk about it, enough research online will probably find the info that you need. Then I would sit the boss, manager, someone high up down and show them the information and see if maybe they can stop selling Iams. Iams does bring in alot of money (so does Science Diet, Eukanuba(part of Iams), and Purina One) and business is money driven not morals driven (unfortunatly). Try to educate people on those foods. Go to google.com type in rendering plants dog food. The sites will not list any particular foods, but it will talk about when you buy food what to look for in good/bad foods. Let me do some research.
