My cockatiel, Heather, gets twice a day a level teaspoon each of "special cockatiel mix" (with two sunflower seeds), Zupreme fruity pellets for tiels, and another level teaspoon of Supreme for parakeets (same stuff; smaller pellets). How much of each does she eat? A quandry for me. Here is one picture just before she got it, and the other of the same stuff ten hours later. She obvious ate the mix, but how much of the pellets do you think she ate? I doubt if any were scattered around as it is served in a deep bowl. Opinions? BTW, any remainder gets fed to the mice - who love it!

My friend, Susan, bird expert, recomended 50:50 - mix to pellets, and she claimed her birds (including tiels) ate different types of pellets on dfferent days). I don't see how a tiel can live on just one small level teaspoon twice a day of mix, and she has gotten that for months, along with the pellets. Of course she gets from me mix to pellets in a 1:2 ration (one third mix). How many pellets did she eat? Anyone care to count them? I sent those photos to Susan today; I await a reply. They smell great, btw, and the mice go nuts for them, even more than for sharp cheddar cheese! ;D It is not generally accepted to NOT feed pellets exclusively. But mix alone is also not good. A quandry for us!

I agree with Andrea--looks like there's still a level teaspoon (or more--?!) of each kind of pellet.

Then I guess she is living on just one level teaspoon of mix twice a day. I know from other sources (besides Susan) that removing ALL mix is not advised. I will inquire further. . .
