>> From the overflow of fancy hi-tech gizmos emerges Tom Ballhatchet's hamster-powered paper shredder -- a sparkling beacon of analog promise, for lack of a better description. Not only does this contraption keep your documents safe from wandering eyes, it also teaches the hamster a bit about responsibility (okay maybe we're pushing it, but bear with us) -- he's gotta work those little legs to spin the wheel that shreds the paper that becomes the crunchy, crinkly stuff he loves to prance and poop on. If you're in the Milan area, take a peek at Tom's work, along with the concepts of 14 other graduating designers from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in their exhibit, "Art School," at Salone Del Mobile next week, from April 18 - 23 at stand A15 << LINK

Yep, I could use one, but Fuzz would have to work darn hard to process all my old bank statements!

A friend in this apartment loves to print out articles and other stuff, read it for awhile, and then shredded it into very fine pieces. (Too much time on his hands; and excess money?). In any event, I get the bags which go in the rat and GP cages along with Soft-Sorbent, et al. It helps stretch out the bedding and cut costs.

Isn't that funny? I saw that on the SARSBC board. What we all need for sure!

One of our members, Moshev, e-mailed it to me.

Actually, shredded paper isn't absorbent.

It is not very absorbent, but depending on the type of paper it can be a little absorbent. but as it is free, more of it can be used to compensate. I actually put down a layer of cat litter, some corn starch, some aspen mixed with a little permethrin powder, and some Kaytee soft-sorbent bedding on top. On top of all that I put lots of shredded paper. That is for the GP cage.
