my future sister in law recently adopted a puppy from a lady that lives in another town that was giving her away
anyway the type of dog is part blue terrier and part pit bull. my question is what is this dog's background habits like is suppose to go after cats? will it grow up to be a mean dog? i am curious as to what this dog's traits and habits will end up being when its older.
she is a medium sized dog and wont get bigger then it is now and we take care of her and are not training it to be a vicious dog but im thinking that it will turn on us eventually or try to kill another animal as well.
can anyone help me to better understand this puppy and feel at ease around it?

Terriers are known to be diggers and barkers, but there is no such breed as a Blue Terrier, do you mean a Kerry Blue Terrier? You would have to get their background on them. I'm not a terrier person, so I wouldn't know, but I'll look them up for you. As for pit bulls, it's all the way they're trained. Some can be very mean and attack either you or any animal and some can be the nicest dogs ever. They wouldn't think about harming any type of animal whether it'd be another dog, cat, rodent, or us (don't forget we're animals too, lol). Your sister-in-law should call the lady back and ask for information about her new puppy. If the lady is a breeder of this mixed breed, she should be able to tell your sister-in-law a lot. If her dog just got pregnant by accident or with her other dog, then she should know a bit of what the dog will grow up to be. Here is what wiki said on both breeds. Kerry Blue: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Blue_TerrierPit Bull: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_BullAlso your sister-in-law could find some dog forums and ask there. Good luck with everything, what did she name the dog?

Aren't terriers very hyper and prone to attack smaller creatures?? That is why I am not a big fan of Jack Russells. I have seen them do stuff I disliked intensely, although it was the owner's fault for having them off the leash. Old story, posted long ago - search for "Central Park" and "Jack Russells" if you wish.

hmm this is all very interesting and im glad that i posted this question now. she is a playful puppy and starves for attention most of the time (which we are all giving her ).
the puppy bolted for my kitten and that is why i was wondering if this dog's natural instincts is to kill smaller weaker animals ...
the puupy is a girl and her name is Gypsy Rogue. kerry blue terriers..now i am not sure if i have heard of this type of dog before and im frightened of pit bulls totally

Kate can answer the dog questions better than me. I will let her do so.

That's good that you're giving her adequate attention. When you leave, does she whine while you are away? I'm just wondering about separation anxiety. It either could be that Gypsy was curious about the kitten and wanted to play with her and the kitten sees this big animal rushing near her and bolts. Or just research both breeds, I did hear about a Pit Bull attacking a cat even though it's been raised with him since puppy hood, but I'm thinking that's one in a fifty chance that can happen. Researching is the key basically. Well maybe LJ has heard of a Blue Terrier as there are lots of different names for them, but I've never heard of one. There is a dog called a Blue Heeler. Did you mean them? This is what they look like: www.nextdaypets.com/directory/breeds/images/1100018.jpgSmall dogs do have a tendency to go after smaller animals because that's the way they were bred long ago. But if you train your dog well, to me, I think it can be broken. But that's my opinion; I've never owned a dog; I just love to read about them. I like Gyspy Rogue's name.

well my sister doesnt work and so the dog is in her room most of the time when my sister in law goes to her job. the only time that she whimpers is when she is wanting her treats but other then that she is great dog . i have heard of blue heelers but this dog is not colored like that . gypsy is mostly all tan colored with white speckles on her paws , she has a black face and black nose.and also a white under body.
so im not sure what kind of dog this is, just know from the breeded person that she is mix breed of some sort

Kerry Blues--I always loved their appearance! Another "Blue" is Blue-ticked Coonhound. There's a pointer/BTC mix across the street. He's just the most wonderful dog. He points when I pet him!
