Well, I figured the boys deserved their own introductions. (They are both syrians) This is Darko. (Yes, named after Donnie Darko) He's my sweet darling. I got him awhile ago after my other hamster died suddenly. He had been brought back to the store with complaints of him being mean and biting. Well, in the many months that I've had him, he's only bitten once. (That was after an unruly child poked him and screamed at the top of his lungs; I'd bite the kid too) If you treat him right, he will love you forever. He is in love with his wheel, and if I put him in a cage without it he will get cranky. He eats and sleeps beside it, too! This is my new hamster. He doesn't have a name yet. He's quite timid, and is not used to me yet. I've only had him for a few days, so I'm not too worried. You can't see in this picture, but he has a white stripe down his chin and white feet. He hides during the day but I did manage to catch a picture of him. (this was after my pathetic attempt to rig a clean water bottle to the wall while the other one was getting washed) So there are my boys. I will post more pictures as they come. All name suggestions for the little one will be considered and greatly appreciated!

I have named well over a hundred animals in the past year. I am named out. I will ask someone to help. >> If you treat him right, he will love you forever. << Of course! I have been biten three times in all the years I have handled hamsters, which included once having 16 simultaneously (all Syrians), and each time it was my fault. All these are recounted in old threads which you can peruse at your leisure. Search for "Zeb Strikes Back" - a thread about when Zeb bit me! I got very bloody. But it was my fault. That thread is either in the Hamster forum or Relaxing Rodents, and goes back several years.

Your hamsters are cute. I like it how Darko is light colored. ;D Usually for names I pick out characters I like from books or movies or just find some interesting ones on the internet. I'm always naming glass/ceramic/imagination characters/animals, etc. So I know what you mean by the naming process.

Darko is a nice hamster, I like his color...But I have to admit I have one that has te same color, so it's not likely I wouldn't like his color And the name-thing for the other hamster isn't much to worry about, sometimes my pets go without names for weeks because I can't find a name that goes with the pet My rats all get names that mean something, like my beautiful girls are called Stella(Star in italian) and Amor Fati(Latin for Love of one's fate). And the Syrian hamsters all get named after historical people/characters/things..

One of my favorite names is Enjo--Japanese for beloved, as I recall. A gerb is named that. I got that name from Hollie (hamwolf), who I hope drops by soon.

Yes, I was going to say: where is Hollie, our resident naming authority, when we need her?

I sent her a PM. If she doesn't want to show she doesn't show.

Lol I didn't know I was so needed. sorry, I haven't been on much, but I check in here and there don't worry as for names. The black guy with the white paws (so cute ^-^) (but I must say I usally come up with Japanese names. so on a side note r's are pronounced like a "D" sounding r) Oreo? Herseys? Mareo (Mah-reh-oh) it sortof has the meaning of rarity. torio (toh-ree-oh) meaning Bird's tail. Seimei (seh-meh) This can mean a alot of things. Pureness, life, exiting. Pretty powerful jiro (Jee-roh) Meaning Second male. Choku (choh-kuu) hehe meaning chalk since he has little white feetz. thats all I can think of now. It's really late here. hope you found one that you liked.

Ha ha! I had a hamster named Oreo... He was evil...
I was thinking of Marshmallow (only that name is bigger than he is) or Vanilla, but I think it was because I was hungry. He's not fat enough to be a marshmallow...
And I usually name my hamsters the opposite of their colouring (except that Vanilla is naturally dark...)
I'm going to test the names on him... see what one fits...

BTW, Enjo is still fine as is her tank mate, the all white Suzie. The first three tankmates, after long split screenings, each died after just several months, including the rescued Hermione whom I got from "New York another forum" (not connection, happily, with another forum). They can be found in the Animal Rescues forum. But Suzie has been fine with her for almost a year. Enjo, some may recall, was almost killed at a pet store as she had a splayed out back leg and a locked forepaw. But they knew I'd take her. And she is still fine, and Hollie could not have given us a better name.
