Yeeeaah!! I'm getting my first Rattery-rat...He's only 12 days at the moment so I still have to wait a few weeks, but I already came up with a name.. This is him: ....Or at least, One of them He's a Blue Beige hooded Rex Dumbo boy, So it's one of the light-colored babies on the left. His name will be Dai Kin.It's Japanese, Dai means Great/big and Kin means Gold(en), or at least something like that He comes from a Rattery that has a Japanese name, and his mom also has a Japanese name. His moms name is Namari, and maybe she'll come and stay with me too. She's A Russian blue hooded Rex, his dad is Silver blue hooded Dumbo and his name is Sullivan ;D It's a big litter, 16 babies

Your girls where/are pretty! I'm a big fan of 'orange'-rat colors, but that's no secret, looking back at my rat-population. How are your rats doing? I already got my name checked by the Rattery-owner, she's studying Japanese

Oh. I assume all the babies are handled and talked to for socialization. I did that with all my young rats late in November 2006. They are very gentle and friendly.

Speaking of rats just real quickly, what happens if one dies, can you give the other (and older rat) a new play mate? Sorry to get off your topic LJ. Don't forget to tell us which one you'll be getting!

Oh okay cool, cause that's what's happening where I work. The one rat has a tumor and may die soon when the other one is still healthy. Thanks. Okay back to LJ's topic.....

@almond: That's not a problem..My total will be 7 when these 2 arrive. 4 boys and 3 girls If all goes well my rat-family will grow again! Over the last 8 months I lost nearly 10 rats so I think it's time for some joy I haven't showed my 2 new boys yet did I, Smokin' Aces & Knights Templar? I can't Remember I did.. My 2 girls are doing well, Amor Fati is making my Old lady young again, they play the whole day ;D Aedie is making a lot of trouble with Ace&Knight, he's really hurting them so I had to separate him from the 2 youngsters. I'm hoping he'll soon change his attitude, I wouldn't like it when he has to spent his last couple of weeks/months alone My old lady is becoming a real people-rat, never could have imagine this! She's always been a hand full, trying to escape, didn't like to be handled. And after 1,8 yrs she's finally coming to me, she doesn't squeek anymore when I pick her up.

Anyone ever wonder WHY rats, especially females, are prone to tumors?? A damn shame. Thankfully, most gerbils and hamsters I've had die in their sleep with no symptoms I could see.

Not only the girls have tumor-problems..So far I only 1 of my girls and 2 of my boys died beacause of a tumor It seems to me that Male-rats have more problems with Paraplegia, I only know 2 girls that got this problem when they where older and I know 10x more boys including 2 of my own.

The guys get tumors too, but it seems to me not as soon or as often, on average?
The one guy who died here had RI and went fast. At least no one else got infected.

I looks Like I'll have to wait even more! The Rattery unfortunatly is struck by a virus..Already over 10 baby-rats died in 3 different litters. Dai is still doing great, he's growing and playing....being a real pain in the but for Namari and the Rattery-owner.
But I'll have to wait until 3 weeks after the last rat died..So I'm keeping everything crossed and hoping I can pick them up in about 3 weeks *fingers crossed*

I don't know If you've heard about the SDAV-virus? We think this virus is on the rats of Maris. All rats sneeze and have squeeky-breathes But the babies are very helpless and weak, so they die easely. The virus is going around over here, sometimes it's gone for a while and then it pops up again. Maris got it from another Rattery where she went to collect one of her ladies that was on a 'date' and to bring home some new rats. They didn't know there was a virus at that moment, 2 days later the first rat died over there and Maris got a call to keep an eye on her own rats.
