Today I found Enjo dead. She was still soft when I dug her out of where her tankmate, Suzie, buried here. I knew something was wrong when only Suzie came out for food this morning. Enjo was a great favorite. The rescues we have a special affection for, and "special needs" rescues are especially loved. She had a locked forepaw and a splayed out back leg, and was almost put down in the pet store, but then they remembered me. Enjo went through three tankmates, after split-screening. The first was Hermione, a rescue from "NYHH" (see Animal Rescues forum), but all these mates died peaceful deaths after a few months. Suzie, after a year, is going strong, though. I thank Hollie for giving us that lovely name of hers, which is Japanese. This is from September 7, 2006: >> Enjo. Means: assistance, special care. << Suzie (white) and the late Enjo: This thread from almost two years ago has a photo of Hermione and one of Enjo's bad leg: LINK HEREI have lost a few other gerbils in the past month, and will update them soon here and in the memorial gallery. I do get behind, but I always catch up. Enjo, however, was special. A burial for a number of critters in the freezer is upcoming soon. . . RIP Enjo. Glad I gave you a good shot at life.

I know Enjo was very dear to you. May she rest peacefully.
I am experiencing that bonding that goes on with special-needs pets. I am always looking in on Fuzz these days.

Thanks. Drumstick, sometimes called Stubby, was a gerb with no back legs. There were a few others I got injured. They are all in the memorial gallery in my sig with their stories, for those interested. I have two parakeets in front of me with deformed feet in a tank. One likes to hang like a bat!

aaww, I'm so sorry DF. You mentioned little Enjo often so I'm sure she ment a lot to you, a special little gerbil. Agouti's are a favorite of mine, and seem to tug the heart strings a little more, it's probably because of my Porche, she was a very special gerbil who passed away a couple years ago.
I too lost a gerbil just recently, my little Jetta. Let's hope that's it for losses for the both of us.

Yes, I know about Jetta. So sorry. Thanks. The four new kittens just to my left cheer me.
