Glitch, my roborovski, WILL NOT EAT ALFALFA PELLETS!! It's getting hard to pull a handfull of seeds out of her food bag, and I'm worried that she isn't getting vital nutrients. any help?

Glitch is the name of your hamster?! Super. Good question, and one we have heard before. Maybe someone else has thought of better answers. Eating alfalfa pellets from a mix--that is the last thing they want to eat. Yes, picking the "goodies" out of mix is typical. Less mix is an option--when hungry enough they might eat it. Is alfalfa vital? I don't think so. Some people leave out lab blocks. Mazuri is a name I have heard that is good. it is boring for the hamster but they eventually gnaw at it instead of mix. More fresh greens? Sure. But avoid lettuce. Broccoli mine always eat, all rodents. I hope some others can come up with more ideas for you.

Hi glitchunter, and welcome! If you get a chance, tell us about yourself and Glitch in the Member Introductions section.
Fuzz never ate the alfalfa pellets either. Never, even if I refused to refill the bowl. I wouldn't worry about it so long as she's eating the rest of the mix.
DF mentioned Mazuri. I was giving Fuzz both seed and it (before his jaw problem cropped up). Good to keep teeth trim, and high in protein. The pellets are huge, though--I always broke them up for Fuzz. You might give them a try to help round out the diet.
And yes, my hams have all liked broccoli too.

I have wondered about that, with gerbils too. They don't eat many, but I never really counted the pellets. Maybe they eat a few??
