Fuzz Anthony passed away tonight. He is lying in the purple pumpkin, at peace and without pain at last. I got Fuzz at a very young age--about 4 or 5 weeks. He was so tiny! And FAST! I remember watching him run on the wheel so fast--and then go out of control and get flung out of it! Like Critter and unlike Pinky, he liked to crawl around in my clothes (while I had them on ). He was a bit bitey at times, particularly after I had overfed him for a while and then cut back his rations. . . but once his jaw problem developed, he could no longer chew on me, much as he clearly longed to! Goofyhead, you will be missed. Rest in peace.

So many memories. May the good ones soon surpass the pain. So very sorry. I really feel depressed. He was like one of the family here.

Thanks, DF. Well, his entire life was chronicled here, almost from when I got him. There are many more memories, like almost losing him under the fridge that one time--pulling him back from the brink by one leg and then hoping that I didn't break it! And how he liked to lie between the edge of my mattress and the headboard (while I prayed that he wouldn't pee there. . .). I can never just turn around and get another hamster like some can. So there will be a void for a while, out of respect for Fuzz. I forgot to mention: I did stuff at work today after bringing Fuzz home from tooth-trimming, and then I went to the gym. Fuzz held on till I came home and died an hour later. I don't think this was an accident. . . I will call the vet tomorrow and let them know. They would want to know. Funny thing is that when I went there for the first time with Fuzz they pulled Pinky's chart, and we joked about how had it been Pinky he would have set a record, being 6 years old. . .

Someone somewhere once claimed to have had a hamster who lived to be seven. Maybe it was a gerbil. But it was whack. The story of Mary and the rescued lab I got for her has been posted, and it was quite a story. When her beloved lab, Jerry was euthanized in her home in her arms, for two months she walked around like a zombie. I finally got her to rescue a needy lab from Long Island Labrador Retreiver Rescue - and they were inseparable. . . right until the moment the police took Charlie away after Mary was killed by an SUV on the street. (We got him back and found him a fine place). But Mary had to wait before getting Charlie.

Aawh, Sweet fuzz I'm so sorry. You can never replace them, but always remember them. That's what keeps them close.

It's a beautiful evening here, and I was in a quiet state of mind, so I weeded the site, dug a hole, and laid Fuzz Anthony to rest near where Pinky was laid to rest two years and 5 months ago. I want him to go back to the earth, so to speak, so it was just he in the hole, no towel or paper or box. My landlord was there, and I recited the Catholic prayer, "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen." It's what came to mind. . .
As I may have mentioned I want to get one of those make-your-own-steppingstone kits and make a stone to put there. It will be nothing fancy, since I am no artist, but it will mark the spot. In the meantime Claire loaned me her garden stake with the following on it:
The kiss of the sun for pardon. The song of the bird for mirth. One is nearer God's heart in a garden Than anywhere else on earth.
And so it is done.
Rest in peace, Fuzz Anthony and Pinky Nose.
(Critter was never buried--she was willed to science.)
The vet left a message with condolences. I am touched.

I was looking for that before but it had not yet been posted. Very touching. The love we give these critters transcends even their intrinsic value while ennobling us.
You have seen the last photo in the strip of photos in my memorial gallery in my signature. That is the most secluded point of the cemetery. I used heavy stones inside and outside the earth to dissuade the many raccoons from nighttime exhumations. It worked. Now I can use those stones (as it is almost a year later) for the new graves.
A photo of your site would be nice.
Best.

Anyone seen the movie "Garden State" with Zach Braff and Natalie Portman? They had a neat (though fairly full) site for their deceased pets.

Aw, Robin I am very sorry. May Fuzz rest in peace; we all know how much you loved him. And yes, all of God's creatures go to heaven. *hugs*

A photo of your site would be nice. The site is just to the left of the bed of lilies. When this was taken no one was buried there yet. Once I mark the site permanently I will take pictures.

Lovely. You have no scavengers around that dig? If so, heavy stones under and over the surface.
