Andrea, how is our (note use of "our"!) illustrious and beloved canine doing?

lol... She is good. She's been on the pancreatic enzymes for a couple weeks now, and she's been eating ok this week, last week she was a bit off when it came to dinner. She is falling a lot though, last week she fell running in the backyard and sprained a front paw, two nights ago she fell down the stairs and did a face plant into the floor when Ryan was letting her out for a pee. I woke up hearing that one, a big 'thump thump' and Ryan yelling "WHIZZER!". She sprained the other front paw from that. So little Ms. Whizz is going to see the vet tomorrow, get some tests run and such. We plan on going camping at the end of the month, so we shall she how that works out with a diabetic dog. She will have to come with us on Saturday to a event I organize (A Community Clean-up of a lake area, it's my 6th year of organizing this) as she needs her med's when we are there. Hopefully the weather will be nice.

Sheez. That sounds painful and potentially dangerous those falls. Very best to Ms. Whizz, and hug her for all of us.

We haven't seen much of Andrea lately--I hope that isn't because things are rough at her end. Hopefully she's just busy--with good things.

Well I'm definitely busy, that's for sure. Whizz has been doing ok, not bad, not great. We took her camping first the first time since she was diagnosed. She was having bad bowel movements the whole trip, but was eating well, and still active despite the heat. Though we had to lift her in and out of the truck and camper because she couldn't do it herself without getting hurt. It was frustrating trying to keep other campers off-leash dogs out of our camp site and away from Whizz. I could have just slapped a few people... Me: "My Dogs Aggressive!" Them: "He/She is friendly" Me: "MY DOG IS AGGRESSIVE!!!!" And of course by that time they get to see just how aggressive my dog is and why she is on a leash. But all in all it was a good trip, and Whizz's body functions are back to normal

Thanks for the update. Our best to Ms. Whizzer.
She doesn't LOOK like she'd be aggressive--I guess that's why people don't believe you?? Are dogs allowed to be off-leash there in the first place?

That was the question I had.
I fought hard years ago for the city to enforce leash laws here in NYC in parks.

Been a while huh? LOL Whizz is 12 years old, been diabetic for 2 years now, has a chronic appendicitis condition, and is totally blind from cataracts. She recently underwent surgery for the removal of a nasty tumor between her two toes on the front left paw. Whizz loves to run down the street, when she feels the curb she switches sides LOL, she sleeps in front of the fireplace, gets cookies after every injection (2x a day), plays with her squeekie toys and her bone, toss the toys all over my living room. She enjoys her Rollerblade at night with her Dad, and 'watching' her critters (ok listening to her critters). She's kept weight on and has had little issues with food or anything else this past year. She is doing great, is healthy and even though has high glucose levels, we've determined her body is ok with that, and it's all part of the appendix and liver issues we've dealt with. That'd be a quick update for inquiring minds

Ditto from me! Are there any operations for cataracts in dogs? I can imagine its prohibitively expensive, if so.

$3000 per eye for cataract removal... where I ahve to travel to another province. Which would also be hard on an old dog like her AND they would just return b/c of her diabetes. yup, we looked into it. My dads neighbour had the surgery done on his old diabetic dog, and after I think close to $10,000 the dog died soon after

Whew! Breath-takingly expensive. Sounds and smells! And a loving touch. They will suffice. Kisses to Whizz. Oh, I did not know they were caused by diabetes.
