I was just reading up on hamsters (a favourite hobby of mine) and was reminded of the following breeds: Turkish Hamster (Mesocricetus brandti) Romanian Hamster (Mesocricetus romani) European Hamster (Cricetus cricetus) Ladak Hamster (Cricetulus alticola) Tibetan Hamster (Cricetulus kamensis) Long-Tailed Hamster (Cricetulus longicaudatus) Armenian Hamster (Cricetulus migratorius) Sokolov's Hamster (Cricetulus sokolovi) as well as many others that can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamster. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website or book that shows pictures of these animals. I am also looking for videos of hamsters in the wild, if anyone knows where I can find them I would be very grateful!

All I can suggest is searching on the web for each type of hamster. There are scientific web sites, I assume, somewhere. I just spent a while looking on the Web and this is a toughie. I did get a number of hits just searching for such as "Romanian hamster". Try it. You could also search in the Google box for Images. Finding photos of the Eurpean hamster is not hard, though:

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I had managed to find the European Hamster before so I shouldn't have mentioned it. Always nice to see a photo of one though.
Looks like I'll have to keep searching. It intrigues me, wondering what they look like and how they behave.
Perhaps searching the scientific name may yield more results.

Indeed!
If I had more time I would keep trying, but right now I do not. Back when I can.
P.S. I have seen scientific sites referencing animals. I will try to find. . .

Jeez, I didn't know there were that many hamsters! I found this: www.answerbag.com/q_view/812But that's all. You really have your work cut out for you, but if you like to research (which is fun) you'll have a blast looking up the different information. I'll check out what my wildlife book says tomorrow...........well it is tomorrow....later today then. Good luck in searching!

This is pretty "wild": a hamster with a squid attached.

Some of those images aren't showing up, well to me they're not. Okay here's what my one wildlife book says: --Common Hamster: Cricetus cricetus Family is the Muridae (aka Black-bellied hamster) Body size: 9.6-13.6in, tail: 1.2-2.4in, weight: 5.3-13.3oz. Distribution: Central Eastern Europe to the north as far as Siberia and south of Iraq. Habitat: Steppe and cultivated land. Behavior: feeds on cereal crops, potatoes, beets, small birds and rodents. Burrow system is dug into the ground and has a network of tunnels. Solitary and is most active in the morning and evening; 2-3 litter a year with 5-12 young. Their gestation lasts for 18-20 days. --The other says basically the same. It just points out also that it's the largest hamster, has thick fur, and his coloring is unusual for a hamster. It hibernates till Spring only coming out ever 5-7 days to forge for food. Turkish Hamster: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_hamsterwww.biolreprod.org/cgi/content/abstract/27/4/811Romanian Hamster: www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/853441/Romanian-hamsterHere's wiki on just hamsters, but in classification they show more than what you listed: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamster^I clicked on the Ladak hamster there and it said the Tibetan was just another name for it. Long-Tailed Hamster: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Long-tailed_Hamstercat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=14471479www.thewebsiteofeverything.com/animals/mammals/Rodentia/Muridae/Tscherskia/Tscherskia-triton.htmlFound other hamsters for you: www.petwebsite.com/hamsters/hamster_species.htmSokolov's Hamster: www.thewebsiteofeverything.com/animals/mammals/Rodentia/Muridae/Cricetulus/Cricetulus-sokolovi.htmlBoy you really have your work cut out for you, good luck!

i1.treknature.com/photos/9272/mesocricetus.jpgThis is one of the links to Turkish Hamsters. When an image does not work for you, REFRESH, or try later. Might be an issue with the website. All those images showed up for me. I will give me links later.
