Last night I made Bou's cage a little bit more fun for him.... it's a completely temporary set-up, I realize, as Bou likes to chew... and cardboard can easily be destroyed by his knawing teeth. I figure when it's in ruins I can just do it again! He seems to LOVE it. I'm also replacing his Silent Spinner with a hanging, mesh wheel this week... as soon as I can get to the petstore to buy one. The cage: Water botta: Quarter: Wheel: Checking out his new digs. Mid-run or mid-poop? Then, taken this morning.... sleeping, finally used to the changes!

Super neato! I bet the wheel ges very annoying though XP. Maybe attaching it to one of the boxes?
I <3 the last pic. ^_^

The thick cardboard I used for tanks comes from Poland Spring water bottle boxes. It lasts a long time. But you never need clean it--just throw it out when it is time to do so! Why not leave both wheels in. . . until the SS breaks? Nothing wrong with it; it is just a bit fragile. There may not be room, of course. Good to see him up high; they like that! Nice job.

Thanks for the replies, you two! This cardboard came with my 20 gallon so it's fairly thick... And I'm pretty sure that I'm adopting a Syrian soon, so I'm giving the (cleaned off) Silent Spinner to him...

It looks like he's having fun in his "new" cage. The last picture of him sleeping is cute.
I do have a question though, isn't that wheel too small for a syrian?

>> isn't that wheel too small for a syrian? << Indeed. I thought it a bit snug for a gerbil.

Charlie, my Syrian, has begun to grow out of his Silent Spinner... so I was planning on buying him a new, solid wheel as soon as I found one (no idea where to get one though, and my mom doesn't want to order online).
The new Syrian that I am adopting is young, I think, so he'll survive with Bou's spinner until I can find a petstore to buy Charlie the new wheel... then I'll get him that wheel, too.
As for Bou- you already know I'm buying him a new wheel. ^^

Do you have a Petco near you? It carries a 12 inch SS wheel. Looks like you have the 6.5 inch one. www.petco.com/product/14921/Super-Pet-Large-Silent-Spinner-12-Wheel.aspx12 inches is huge, though. A Wodent Wheel would be a nice compromise--there's a 7.75 inch one--but I never see them around and so they may be only available online. And btw, the tank looks like fun for Bou (cool name!)! The tail-up caption is funny!

If you get a SS wheel of any size, I'd immediately reinforce the yellow area behind the hub with epoxe glue. It often cracks there.

Great Set-up! He looks like he's really enjoying himself in there.
