Today a fellow member of another forum who lives nearby to me dropped her hamster who needed a new home off at my house. He is a male, LH sable Syrian, and such a sweetie. I'm not sure of his age... his face looks babyish but his fur makes his body seem huge. Any guesses on his age? He has a name- Kingsley- but I'm considering renaming him since all of my other hamster's names mean something to me. PICS: Aw! Look at all of that fur... On my bed: Yeh it was 8:37. 8) Such a baby face. <3 In his new tank: Enjoy!

I never rename critters. They are what they are! The one exception was when a rescued rabbit named Poopy had to be changed to Poppy for obvious reasons! Age. Well, the fur seems to thin on the sides with age and sometimes the face. Hope that wheel holds up. I like the last ones with the paws on the glass. A beloved deceased hamster of mine, a LH sable named Prince, once climbed up the inside of a glass cabinet looking like a hamster spiderman. I got a nice photo; I have no time to search for it but anyone else can using the "search" icon in the bar at the top of the page. He looks dark to be a sable. Prince and Princess were supposedly sable and looked different. See their photos in the Memorial gallery in my siggy. Give the lucky guy a kiss from me!

I always rename things that I want, so you're fine to me. Your little Kingsley looks cute and yes he has a lot of fur on his back side!! Chewie had a bit, but yours ices the cake.

I am not an expert on Syrian hamster colors. You can Google that topic and check yourself as the photos may not truly represent the exact color and shade. This is the late and beloved Princess blowing me a kiss (a favorite photo): The day after she died of a stroke I incredibly found this fellow who looked like her little brother. I named him Prince. She had been a rescue, and he lived a long life. Princess' CT2 cage (she was moved to a Habitrail in the photo) has seen many hamsters since then including the famous Maggie (see my sig Gallery); currently, Graham the spiny mouse is there. I was told both hamsters were "banded sable long hairs".

Look at the gallery in my signature. I had many black hamsters. Maybe they appear similar.

Heh, now I have 2 black Syrians... Charlie and Chirp. The thing that confuses me is that Charlie's fur is much darker than Chirp's....

I've seen that! There was an escape once long ago, and Makeeda, Rainy's daughter, got impregnated by Zeb, a brother. Luckily the litter was only two; maybe Makeeda ate some babies immediately but I never saw them. Makeeda was very dark brown, almost black as was her mom. Rainy, and most siblings. Some were "pandas" white and black. BUT. . . these two were different. Blanche was a DEW and Stanley was JET BLACK! Genetics is interesting. Their photos are also in my sig memorial gallery.

Oh, DF, that was hilarious! (no, not the smack, but the choice for LH) You have to be a woman with some understanding of the female reproductive system to follow this one. . . . which leads me to ask: did you, DF, just plug LH into Google and see what came up--or did you know of luteinizing hormone already?? I suspect the former. . .

I have no idea as to what the first one means, but as to the long-haired bit as soon as I logged off I figured it out. Aw, Chirp is a different and cute name for him.
