It was a couple of months after Sophie died that I got a pm from Robin stating that this organization called Rainbow Tails Rescue just rescued some hamsters that are looking for homes. So I looked on their site, wrote to the nice young lady there and she showed me two hamsters. Then she said they had another one a few months older and to maybe look at him too--well that was Tika.
Tika reminded me of my Sophie with the tan color except he was white/tan and was long-haired. I decided to go with him but to change his name. I wanted it to be a Star Wars name and I thought at first it would be Wookiee. But he didn't look like a Wookiee, except for his long fur. So the name of Chewie was decided and finalized.
We picked him up at nighttime in August and found out he was six months old, so his b-day became Feb. 20, 2006. We brought him home and he was introduced to his two CT homes; I know they say let hamsters get used to their homes within one-two weeks, well I'm different. I give them a day and a half, two max. After awhile I noticed that his teeth were different and curled so a vet visit was scheduled. The vet there told us to give him baby food and so we did.
Chewie was my first ever boy I had kept. Harriet had some boys, but we gave them away. Chewie's personality was different from Sophie's (I know they each have their individual personality) and his was funny. He didn't care where he was in his exercise ball and he knew when I was finishing up his home as he was always around it scratching in the ball.
He was out with me almost every single night and sometimes up to two hours. We'd watch tv shows together, movies, he would rest upon my arm and sometimes close his little eyes. He'd climb Mt. Everest (my right shoulder) and Mt. McKinley (my left shoulder) and be the "hamster of the world!"
Normally I'd hate to say that one hamster was the best out of all of them, but Chewie surpassed all of them. He was the best, he was my: cutie pie, baby boy, little dude, Chewsie, Chews, Chews-A-Bob (as Mom would call him), Chewster, Chewsmeister (as Robin would call him), and my sweetie.
He never once thought about biting and I felt his tongue when he would lick baby food off my finger. He loved being on my bed and exploring. He lived for two and a half wonderful years here and I was blessed enough to have him.
He is now in hamster Heaven with the rest and meeting new hamsters and playing with them. I still love him very much and will always love him just as I do with my others. And just as I do with my others, every night after prayers I end it by saying, "I love you Harriet, Benny, Theo, Sophie, and Chewie." You're all in my hearts forever.
My heart is mending itself back together again and I'm beginning to think of the happy times with my baby. He was buried near our house on Sunday. He was born Feb. 20, 2006 and died Sept. 6, 2008.
As I said to him before and this is a line from a Star Wars movie, "Good bye Chewie, miss you I will."
