Yesterday I was at my sister's to celebrate the 6th birthday of my niece. A while ago my sister bought a little hamster, it didn't have a name, but I was instantly in love when I saw "it".. My sister was complaining that it didn't wanted to be handled and the girls didn't really like it..So I asked if she wanted me to take it with, And she agreed! ;D So now I'm the proud owner of a Small roborovksi hamster, about 11 weeks old and no more than 20 grams and about 1,5/2 cm long. I didn't know what gender it was, but It didn't keep me from picking a name..Darcy! After Mr. Darcy from Pride&Prejudice ;D Today I sexed it, and it's a boy I cleaned one of my empty Aquariums for him..he seems to enjoy his new habitat with a lot of toys, although he doesn't have a wheel anymore, but I'll get him a new one tomorrow Here he is:

Dwarfs should never be given to little kids. well, no animal should be, but dwarfs more so - too small, too active, and they do not like to be handled all too often. they are like furry fish - something to watch and enjoy, as I am watching my spiny mice now. If I had time, I could better socialize these smart spiny's; supposedly that could be don to such an extent they'd groom and lick my fingers. But it tales time I do not have. We are all happy nonetheless. They are running in their wheels right now. I wonder how many guys are familiar with "Pride and Prejudice"? About the same number who saw "Sense and Sensibility"! It is great when a critter lucks out and gets a new much better home. I am happy for Darcy. As for me, speaking of sexing, I need to sex two loads of fancy mice before "something" happens! ;D

She didn't bought him for the kids but the kids would like to play with him..They love to watch&Handle (my) Little Egypt & Tempest Storm. They also have to big bunnies(a Californian and a great Lotharinger) and those are more active and fun, and they "play" real nice with the kids(And I'm really in love with the californian because it fell a sleep on my lap...lying on his back *melts*) Darcy's kinda curious, so It shouldn't be that hard to get him used to being handled..My other sister had a Roborovski named Dottie, she loved to sit with us and being handled. And for the Pride&Prejudice-movie..i didn't really liked the one with keira knightley, but I love jane austen's books..I'm a big fan of old Novels. At the moment I'm re-reading the Scarlet pimpernel My best friend doesn't really like it when I talk about al those "girlish" books ;D

Well, I can't even talk about them as I never read them. Although I did like the movie "Boys on the Side" which a female friend recommended, and the classic old "Little Women" was OK (the movies). The best rodent for handling is rats. Well, maybe GPs, too. Of course you have to be ready for those damn tumors all too often. I never had a dwarf I felt safe handling (in terms of not biting but running off). I had two gerbils I was TOTALLY confident with they would never run off - Sam and Tommy. Their stories are in my memorial Photo Gallery in my signature. Tommy was the leader of a group of four (my first guys ever), and when he died naturally Dill and Phil fought a terrible fight for dominance: Dill was badly chewed, but survived; his brother Phil got one bite on the belly, and that proved fatal in a few days. Sam, who never knew the others, was like a dog jumping on me and playing. Tommy would run up and down on my confidently, but only Sam jumped on me as soon as I took the top off his tank. Great photo of him in the Memorial Gallery. I miss them both badly after many years. I miss Tommy's sisters too, Chrissie and Crystal, my first girls. Lovely girls. Sorry to reminisce "Scarlett Pimpernel". Somehow I never thought all those French aristos were worth saving. Let me highly recommend the classic movies from the 1930's - "Marie Antoinette" with Norma Shearer, and "A Tale of Two Cities" with Ronald Colman. Great stuff.

What a cutie! And I love the name!
A friend of mine is married to a Darcy. And I had a student once who was Darci.
It's great that you've gotten Robos to the can-be-handled stage. From what I read that's not very common.
My dwarfie is more squirmy than my Chinese were, that's for sure.
And what's wrong with reminiscing, DF?
