Good-bye to Fred. I found him dead today, a champagne fancy rat and one of the bunch born here in November of 2006. He had just turned two, and he had no tumors or symptoms other than in recent days being less eager for food than normal, although he ate. Please see the thread I just started in the Rat forum on their birthday.

I feel a special kinship to any organism named Fred, as it's my dad's name (short for Ferdinand).
Rest in peace, Fred.

Thanks.
Nine are left. About half reached the age of two alive. My favorite rat is Tux, a B&W hooded. he looks fine. I definitely need to take photos of them. It was their birthday recently and I posted on that in the Rat forum.
I am glad Fred didn't have tumors.
When you get a lot of animals at once, usually by rescue, they tend to expire at about the same time, give or take several months.

Thanks. I think he died in total peace.
Taking photos of the remaining crew are high on my To Do list coming right up.

Sadly, another light blinked out yesterday - Matthew, one of the brother rats, just did not wake up. No symptoms; no tumors.
Six guys are left, and two girls. Some are not in great shape. Just over two years old, all of them. You know the story.
I will miss them all greatly when they bare gone, but cherish the bittersweet memories.
BTW, I will look for a friend for Max this week.
If the temps warm up enough to thaw the ground I will have a mass burial (a small one) asap.
