So, I lost two Syrian hamsters this year, Ringy and her mom Rainy. The big degus I expected never came in - the boasting fellow who said he could get them repeatedly could not! I also have a new 20 gallon tank my rabbit, Poppy, came in. So, I have some space. I today rescued Penelope. She had been living in a bucket with a bowl of water and some "companions". She may be preggie, or as they said on "I Love Lucy", enciente. Any bulges that give it away? Note also the tail - sort of bare, but that will grow back in. In one photo I caught her in a hop - first time! So, we shall see. She is quite sweet and easily handleable, and in a ten gallon with SAM wheel, hide box, and wooden stuff, right now. Any day there is a rescue is a good day. We shall call her Penny. Meet Penny!

She doesn't look pregnant from here, but bare in mind that they only start showing a few days to the day before birth. Just in case though give her lots of kitchen roll/toilet paper as nesting material and give her some extra protein like a bit of egg once a day

She's very pretty. Who was keeping her in a bucket?

She looks just like my PB. That is deplorable that she was kept in a bucket, poor baby.

She's very pretty. Who was keeping her in a bucket? The idiot who previously owned her. She was being kept in the bucket with two other gerbils!! How he got them I am not sure, but they may have been "extras" from his daughter from her school, or something like that. Supposedly that is why her tail is nearly bare. I really think she is pregnant as she is not big on the wheel right now, although plenty active and alert. We shall see; if she is not preggie I shall consider intros. But first things first.

She got extra food, a a bit of cheese, plus some greens. I am sure she had neither. She will start getting scrambled egg bits later tonight. She is in the bedroom with me - it was time I moved a rodent back in here; I moved out ten later last year owing to a mite problem, and the cacaphony of whirling wheels that kept me awake! BTW, she is a golden, just like Cliffy, who is the brother of Crystal and Chrissie, and uncle to the three black brothers, Tommy, Dill, and Phil.

She's quite lovely, DF. Maybe she's not using the wheel so much because she's unsure about her new home. Once she settles in she may use it more.

My friend's gerbil, Phoebe, never ran on the wheel. I guess you'll know soon enough if she is preggers. You tend to have light fur gerbies, which is why the males have light colored balls.

I see the correlation! What I NOW will have to do is check the three black brothers, Tommy, Dill, and Phil, and assess the color of their balls.
