To start the New Year I lost Gail (see Memorial Forum), likely at about the stroke of midnight.
But some young finches have fledged and the three of them are flying about. They have the typical black bills of juveniles.
I see more eggs in another wicker basket. I will indeed soon start separating the genders.
They drink and eat a lot more than you might think for such small birds.

I confirmed today that the black bills are indeed typical of juveniles.
One fellow I sort of know allows his finches to fly loose in his place. Charming, but messy. Even having Heather usually loose has concerns, although she does seem to prefer certain areas! ;D
