I wish everyone would offer us a gallery such as that: many thumbnails we can click on instead of a host of GIANT photos! How long do those cardboard tubes last?! Lovely gerbs. Happy with the Wodent Wheels? How long do they last? My biggest gallery is the Memorial Gallery (see my signature). I just did a MAJOR updating of it. Many lovely photos. Check them out if you wish. You ever do a memorial gallery for the deceased ones? I gotta go. I will comment more later.

The tubes don't last too long. My two boys Little Bear and Spot are my maniac chewers.
I love the Wodent Wheels. Very quiet and easy to clean. The front face chews chewed on the most but you can buy parts for them super cheap online. As long as you can afford the front pieces, the wodent wheels last forever. They are on a metal spoke. Just keep them oiled with baby oil.
I highly recommend them for floor wheel and hanging wheel as you can see from my gerbil albums.

I noticed later they were merely toilet paper and paper towel rolls - they rarely last! I thought they were thick mailing tubes. If you can find thick mailing tubes they are great. I cut them with a jigsaw. I am just back from seeing "Slumdog Millionaire". Excellent. As for the albums. . . How do they like those cute hammock things? Do they stay in or gnaw it to pieces or what? They look good. I see a bell in one photo. They react to it how? I never leave chinchilla dust in as they poop in it. ? Is that a hay cube?? Mine never touched it. How do your compare Carefresh to aspen in terms of hos the gerbs use it? Ever try Kaytee Soft-Sorbent? Ever try a floor mat on those wore cages? I use it for my big multi-level rat cage? It fit perfectly. Do yours gnaw bars like crazy? That habitat with the connecting tubes. . . wish I had room for such; so many rescues. I am surprised the gerbs don't find some plastic to chew. Looks great though. Your gerbs are very fortunate! BTW, please post a note - I want anyone else to see it - on how to reup on the AGS site. I've been so busy and distracted I have not been their in ages.

Those cozies Fred loves. I never put anything fabric in the gerbils cages. Not good for them. They are used to the bell. They knock it around once in awhile. The gerbils love the hay cube. It i good for them.
I like the softness and carefresh ultra does not have too much dust. One tank I have to use corncob as one of my little girls Simone (spotted siamese) is very sensitive to dust.
I have plenty of cardboard to make the bottoms. They do make a mess but I don't mind. I use a straw mat for my hamsters topper and he loves it. Doesn't chew it at all.
Gerbils will chew the floormat to shreds.

When I had more time I used to take heavy Poland Spring cardboard boxes and cut them into levels, the sides flush against the glass. The gerbs loved to climb on top of them, and slowly they gnawed at them. a problem was if too close to the mesh they would start gnawing holes in it! I should try doing that again, for spiny mice also.
Ever have a problem with mold on corn cob? I heard unless changed regularly it gets moldy. I have not seen that when used as a substrate under aspen - that for mice. It is not used by me for gerbs as it is impossible to dig through, as with Kaytee Soft-Sorbent.

The tank with the corncob get cleaned out every week. So no problem with mold. I have to do this because of Simone's nose problem. I even I have to limit on what she can chew also. very sensitive to the tp roll scent. Just straight cardboard or chube for her and Mona (burmese).

What was really odd for me was one day a gerb, I think it was Crystal, had red mucus, porphyrin, coming from the eyes and nose. She had been on aspen with NO problems for many months. I immediately put her and her sister, Chrissie ,my first female gerbs - see Memorial Gallery in sig.), on paper towels as I had nothing else. She started getting better within hours.
Several weeks later I tried aspen again - no problems! I had not just changed the bedding when she reacted. So go figure.
