Tonight I was channel surfing and came across a shot of a big ole "Borg Cube" so I paused to have a look because ironically I put Borg Rat Locutus to sleep today. My fellow Trekkies know where this is going... OF COURSE it was the episode where we first meet " Locutus"!! I wasn't sure whether to smile or cry. I did both. It was all very wistful. My rat, Locutus, was named after the character. Back when I was putting his photos from the rescue site up on another site, I saw that face and just KNEW I had to have him because he HAD to be named Locutus! So, I adopted him and his companion, who also got a Borg character name, "Hugh". I don't think of myself as a geek or nerd, so I really bristle when I get the rolled eyes and wisecracks from people who think Star Trek or other sci-fi is deserving of mockery. If I were a nerd I wouldn't like it much either. All I can say is that if I weren't a Trekkie I wouldn't have been compelled to adopt those boys in particular and wouldn't have had the joys of the lil darlins ... little Hugh who started out so jumpy and scrappy, but who mellowed and turned out to be the apple of my eye, and big ole Locutus the Beautiful who preferred the company of his friend until his passing, and who became a squishy cuddle-muffin in recent months. Farewell my Borg Collective. Resistance was futile.

Aw, I think maybe someone knows you needed to see that episode in order to remind you how your boy used to be and when you got him. And I don't think sci-fi deserves mockery either. I hope you're doing well.

I consider myself a Trekker. Trekkies are like the kind in the movie "Fanboys" and those who go to conventions in costumes with fake ears. I met Jonathan Frakes (who was great!) at one and Nana Visitor at another. I names a gerbil after him - see the memorial gallery in the sig. Those who missed the first appearance of Locutus missed one of the great moments in Sci Fi history. For real. I have it on VHS. I wish I had the time to make a rat photo into a Borg rat.

Linda, that's a lovely eulogy to them both. Not a Trekkie or a Trekker, so I can't comment on that part!

But one of these days, I will do some Borg rats photos! Not tonight though; I can barely stay awake after a long bad day. BTW, that photo above IS Locutus, the one the rat was named after. Well, a toy version of him! ;D

Star Wars > Star Trek. That's all I have to say about that.
Sorry to hear about your poor rat. I have never had one, but they're definitely adorable and seem to be friendly. One day I'll get one.

DF - when I said "one day I'll get one" I mean one day I'll have rats. Not a single, solitary creature. Sorry for the confusion! I wouldn't subject them to a life alone.

The video store where I used to work allowed pets to come in (as long as they were under control). This one girl used to bring in her two rats when she got a movie. They were sooo cute! After that I always wanted to get some (that better wording, DF?) because they seemed so friendly.

DF and other Trekkers, you will appreciate this: on another group I posted about my BorgBoyz. Someone replied about them going to the Bridge....or being in command of it! LOL I never thought of that double entendre!

Lol it was me who said Star Wars > Star Trek. (and I always remember that the mouth of the crocodile eats the one that's bigger). So yes, I think Star Wars can kick Star Trek's butt any day of the week!

>> DF and other Trekkers, you will appreciate this: on another group I posted about my BorgBoyz. Someone replied about them going to the Bridge....or being in command of it << It would have been cool to find an advanced life form in the shape of a giant rodent commanding a star ship. But almost always it was humanoids (explained in one episode). Perhaps with digital FX they could do that now, as in "Narnia". >> .does > mean greater than? If so, my Dad would agree with you Linda. As a SW fan.....well....I'll put down my blaster for now. << Unless you have seen ST/NG - almost all the episodes - you are in no position to judge. A friend of mine, Ali, watched the last episode, two hours, of ST/NG together in an emotional farewell. And if you do not know what ST/NG means you really are in no position to judge! ;D BTW, anyone see the movie "Fanboys"? SW geeks travel across country to visit the George Lucas ranch, and apparently get beat up along the way by Trekkers (I don't think Trekkies are tough enough!). The original ST is still on TV here in NYC once a week. They did the one where the Romulans make their debut in a surprise sneak attack on Federation outposts - "Balance of Terror". A great episode: us.imdb.com/title/tt0708420/The entire movie was almost a remake of a classic WW II destroyer/submarine film starring Robert Mitchum, "The Enemy Below". us.imdb.com/title/tt0050356/Curiously, the Romulan commander later played Spock's father, Sarek. But the characterizations in ST/NG were generally far superior.

Argh, sorry Dez, thought Linda said that. I think Star Wars can kick Star Trek's butt any day of the week! ^Oh yeah! Unless you have seen ST/NG - almost all the episodes - you are in no position to judge. ^Oh shush, I think Dez and I mean movies. You do mean the movies right Dez? And if you do not know what ST/NG means you really are in no position to judge! ^1-I'm not judging anything and 2-Star Trek, Next Generation.
