Oh. Well no Trekkie or Trekker would ever automatically separate the ST movies from the ST TV series. It is all one whole thing. And no one can have any real understanding of, or appreciation of, the ST movies, especially the NG, without knowing the TV series.
If you want to compare movies exclusively. . . these are my favorites; yours will differ.
Star Wars:
SW/ESB
SW/ANH
SW/RotS
SW/RotJ
SW/AotC
SW/PM
ST's:
Wrath of Khan
Voyage Home
Generations
Undiscovered Country
First Contact
Search for Spock
Insurrection
Nemesis
The Motion Picture
The Final Frontier
Now let us combine the groups:
SW/ESB
SW/ANH
SW/RotS
Wrath of Khan
Voyage Home
Generations
Undiscovered Country
First Contact
SW/RotJ
Search for Spock
SW/AotC
Insurrection
SW/PM
Nemesis
The Motion Picture
The Final Frontier
SW has a slight advantage to begin with as more money was put into each production resulting in more effects and more costume variety and opulence. ST also did ten movies in 23 years. SW only did six in 28 years.
BTW, if someone is comparing SW films to ST films (excluding the TV series) I assume they saw and know what the ST movies were about. Can't evaluate them if you haven't seen them!

You thought the movie "Fanboys" was funny?? You should see "Star Wait". It's a documentary of the people who were in the lineup for DAYS so they could go to opening night of AotC.
Spoofs of SW that I love: Spaceballs Thumbwars <-- have to be in the mood for REALLY STUPID in order to watch this.
I will admit, I saw PM, AotC, and RotS on their opening night... I got there at 3:30pm (when school got out) grabbed McShits on the way, and waited outside the theatre till 12:00am when they opened. Amazingly we were about the 10-15th people in.
Oh and for the record, I think SW > ST/NG and I have seen a lot of the episodes. (My ex used to watch them religiously... I would sit and play WoW on his laptop and half-watch the show. I found ST boring, tbh.) I have seen all the movies that are available in my town and, again, found them boring and didn't really pay attention to them.

I did squirm more than once watching SW/PM. Halfway through I said to myself, I waited sixteen years for THIS, and GL could not do better?? The kid annoyed me as did the big fat mosquito, and I seriously though Lucas had lost his mind with Jar Jar Binks - a blatantly racist and profoundly irritating character, perhaps the most hated character in SciFi history. A suitable end for Jar Jar: An ongoing joke with the first ST crew was that it could have been called "Jews in Space": Nimoy, Koening, and Shatner. When Shatner first told Howard Stern he was Jewish Stern refused to believe him. It was quite funny. The Vulcan "live long and prosper" hand thing is an old Jewish symbol found on many Jewish graves. You can research that if you care. More Jar Jar. Here he meets Godzilla!

Never saw Thumbwars but Spaceballs was hilarious! My friend in high school told me to watch it since he knew I liked SW. Well in terms of ST, I think the older tv episodes are good and would watch them over the SW cartoon episodes. I think the SW cartoon shows are stupid and they bug me; the newer ST shows just bore me. I haven't seen all of them, but the ones I did watch just didn't grab me and take me in. I like SW, but am not one of those crazy fans to stand in line for two days until the movie comes out. That's cool that you went on opening night for some of them Dez! The kid annoyed me as did the big fat mosquito ^Who's the big, fat mosquito? Or you mean Jake Lloyd was like that? Yes, as an actor he wasn't good at all. I think Jar-Jar served his purpose as bringing the Gungan army together with the Naboo, but he was annoying. But I don't see how Jar-Jar was racist?

We have gone over that before more than once with examples cited. Jar Jar is a blatant caricature of a lower class Jamaican in his speech and in certain aspects of his shuffling movement and appearance - such as psuedo dreadlocks. All he needed was a bong for his ganja, and The Simpsons, when satirizing Lucas and SW, showed him with one, grinning. He is also part Stepin Fetchit, an infamous shufflin' obsequious "negro" of the movies in the 1930's. Look him up on Wiki. The quotes in this post are from Wiki. GL screwed up PM by appealing to ten year olds, and to an extent did the same with AotC, but less so. Why? I do not know. >> Additionally, Rob Coleman, who was the lead on the Industrial Light & Magic animation team, warned Lucas that there was concern among the team that the character of Jar Jar was coming across poorly for the team and how the character was to be projected. Lucas told him that he especially put Jar Jar in the film to appeal to small children. After that, the issue was dropped. << We have also gone over the Rastafarian connections before, also. >> Allegations of racial caricature: Joe Morgenstern of Wall Street Journal described the character as a "Rastafarian Stepin Fetchit on platform hoofs, crossed annoyingly with Butterfly McQueen." Patricia J. Williams writes that many aspects of Jar Jar's character are highly reminiscent of the archetypes portrayed in blackface minstrelsy, while others have suggested that the character is a "laid-back clown character" representing a black Caribbean stereotype. George Lucas, however, has denied any intentional similarity. << McQueen played a stupid brainless gutless slave in "Gone With the Wind" whose most famous line was, said screaming and crying, "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies!". Jar Jar became "Jim Jam" in The Simpsons satire of SW called "Cosmic Wars". It was also this idiot Jar Jar who gave Palpatine emergency powers. Did I see him at all in RotS?? Maybe a glimpse. Wish someone killed him. My Favorite Jar Jar Page!

I don't think Lucas did that on purpose though, from hearing him talk he doesn't seem like that kind of person to criticize others. Jar-Jar was just for kids and for a laugh. He barely did any humor in the PT, like he did with the OT, and so I think he thought a character like Jar-Jar was needed. Maybe for kids he was hilarious, but for adults he was annoying.
Did I see him at all in RotS?? ^Very little; we saw him when Mace Windu talked to Palpatine after arriving on Coruscant from his rescue. And then we see him during Padme's funeral.
We have gone over that before more than once with examples cited. ^Well sometimes we must repeat ourselves as I'm going to do for you below....
It was also this idiot Jar Jar who gave Palpatine emergency powers. ^Palpatine has the Force, he's a very powerful Sith taking out four Jedi Masters including Mace Windu. He can manipulate anyone, he even manipulated Anakin and if he can manipulate Anakin, who's very strong in the Force, a mere Gungan is easy!

I had a hamster named Jar-Jar Binks... (My friend's lop is named the same) I agree that the three prequels are a big pile of "Sith" (rearrange the letters) but the old ones are Classic and are what made me fall in love with the series. A fan overlooks the little annoying things, and besides, maybe GL is going senile in his old age?

I had a hamster named Jar-Jar Binks... ^Aw, that's cute and funny. We both had hamsters with SW names, I had a hamster named Chewie.
I agree that the three prequels are a big pile of "Sith" (rearrange the letters) ^Gotcha and I agree with you on the first two; call me odd but I liked the last one (RotS).
maybe GL is going senile in his old age? ^Lol, maybe he is. Hey Luke and Leia kissed in ESB and then had them being bro/sis in RotJ. Little quirky wouldn't you say? There are lots of issues that just make people go "what/don't understand?"

Jar Jar is a blatant caricature of a lower class Jamaican in his speech and in certain aspects of his shuffling movement and appearance - such as psuedo dreadlocks. You know, I always thought this. Glad to see I'm not insane. Oh, how we love the Star Trek in my household. Well, us old people do. The young'un likes Star Wars better. Have you seen ads for the new Star Trek movie coming out on May 9? If not, go find the trailer (in HD at apple.com) and have a look. Best looking special effects I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it's about a young James T Kirk and how he gets into Star Fleet. Now I like womanizing as much as the next guy but I hope there's less of that in this flick and more pew! pew! Maybe it will help my deep depression from BSG going away.
