Robin ("pinky") is our bird expert. Wow. That is a lot of thumbnails. What kind of deer that is I do not know. But you have some great backyard. Obviously out in the woods somewhere? I can't identify those birds, but I am no expert. I love it when squirrels sprawl on their bellies like that. Geese are very common here in Brooklyn in large parks and cemeteries where water can be found. Are their giant poops a problem for you?

That's a tough ID for the average backyard birder. It's a female red-winged blackbird. The photo looked like that of a huge sparrow, and that's the giveaway. She looks NOTHING like the male of the species, who IS a black bird with some red and white on the shoulders. www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Red-winged_Blackbird.htmlGerbilgal, do you see the males in your area too? Listen to the audio clip--you probably hear them if you don't see them. RWBs are omnivorous--they primarily dine on insects, but they will eat seeds, hence the visit to your food pile. Cool! Oh, and the ducks are all mallards. Brightly colored ones are males, others are females or juveniles.

Good call. It did look like a huge sparrow! >> NOTHING like the male of the species, << As with the electus. Sexual dimorphism. Sort of like when Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett.
