Caerbannog died on Oct. 29th, 2008, and I had a mass burial for her and many others the next day. See the thread with her name in it from last Fall in this forum. Today I made my long way to the usual cemetery spot with all of Winter's deceased pets, and the recently gone Jessica the GP. They were mostly Moet and Chandon's children, the last to go. There were many fancy and spiny mice, also. I took well over an hour to dig two deep holes - one for the mice and one for the others. My digging tool was a big Bowie knife! And I bet Jim Bowie never envisioned it being used for this purpose. I wore rubber gloves to quickly scoop out the dirt. Heavy stones are both inside the graves and outside so no raccoons can get in there. It works as Caerbannog and the others' grave from October is untouched and undisturbed, as are the four others in the vicinity. The cemetery was lovely in early Spring as the magnolais and hanging cherry trees were starting to bloom, and some of the mostly still bare trees were covered in a light green "mist" of new buds. You can see the new graves to the left and right of the one stone in the middle which is the grave from October. Contrast this photo to the old one in the other thread. There was not a soul around, of course. Glad I only have to do this twice a year. Whew. A lot of work. Yes, I had a little ceremony of sorts at the end of the work. Under the spreading beech tree. Van Gogh might like these sinuous cherry trees. The bright pink flowering cherry trees are almost two weeks from blooming. Not all the magnolias are in bloom, but this one sure is:

That's a very nice place; I still have to take a picture of Chewie's grave.
