Well, my three and a half year old hamster that I rescued from CL has finally crossed over the rainbow bridge. He started having eye problems, then yesterday when I was doing my routine check of the hams I noticed he hadn't eaten or drank anything. I got him to drink, but I still couldn't get him to eat and he was looking kind of listless. I went down to bring them a chunk of carrot this morning, and he was gone. If he hadn't been over three I would have taken him to the vet yesterday, but he lived a good, full life, and it was his time. So here's to you, Balrog. To your quiet, amiable nature. I will miss you crawling all over me and falling asleep on my chest (or between my boobs) while I sat and played video games. You were abused and mistreated, yet you still found it in your heart to be the most snuggly lovable teddy-bear. You were an escape artist, and you chewed through my Internet cord, but you always allowed yourself to be caught and cheerfully put back in your cage. You will be missed.

So sorry What a long life! I'm glad he found a nice place to sleep! That photo looks like a GP! Or a hamster on steroids. Maybe you have a small hand. RIP

I thought "GP", too! I'm so sorry you've lost your big, cuddly boy

So sorry Dez about Balrog. May he rest in peace. *hugs* (and that picture looks like a hammie to me)

You and I have been the lucky ones, Dezzi--to have had a hamster in our lives for 3.5 years. It makes for a special bond.
Did Balrog mellow in his old age? That's something I really enjoyed about Critter and Pinky--my laid-back Chinese became even more laid-back, hanging out with me for hours without fear of them escaping.
Clearly Balrog enjoyed a great life with you. Rest peacefully, little guy. (He doesn't look that huge to me.)
