I was very stressed the past two days. Heather the cockatiel had vanished. I noticed it a few evenings ago. "Where is she??". Somewhat later I started looking, then searching, and later desperately searching. I got three hours of sleep last night as a result, a result of not finding her. Did a cat eat her? Yea, even the feathers. And cats don't come in here, unless they sneak in for a few seconds when I open the door. They get chased out fast. Did she fly outside? The windows are shut with tight screens, but I was out there in the dark with a flashlight checking the trees. Did she get stuck in the a/c? Today I pulled it out and looked inside - nothing. But while over there I, AGAIN, peeked behind the bookcase which is against the wall. There she was!! Wedged in there. Heather must have moved a little when I looked previously with the flashlight. So, I moved the bookcase, pried her out with a broomstick, then grabbed her with a baseball cap. she was plenty feisty and tried to bite me. I kissed her many times anyway! She is in her big locked cage (for cockatoos) now with loads of food and water, and looking fine. If she gets out, and she likely will, I will know where one of her hiding places is.

And she is fine this morning.
That was very distracting and disconcerting to me. Every place I searched I thought I might find her dead.

Dang, that must've been hectic for you! Glad you found her, how did she escape?

She didn't escape, which is why she is still here! She almost never was locked in that big cage. She is right now, and she just chirped to a car alarm outside and the sound of a bomb dropping in a WW II show on TV.

An hour ago I put the front cover on the fan near me and let Heather out of her cage. She is right behind my right ear, chirping. Now she just flew over to me bed and is walking on it. Never did that before. Now she is perched on my pants that are on the bed. She's looking around checking things out. Very cute.

Yesterday Tana, the yellow parakeet in a tank, got loose as Heather gnawed a hole in her mesh top. She was a few feet away in between some books and rolled up posters. I gave her a bath before putting her back in.
She is in a tank, you may recall, owing to deformed feet. She was a rescue some years ago along with her deceased white sister, Breena. See memorial gallery in my sig.
