I don´t recall it has been asked.....I read most all the Posts there as well as I have them come right into my Mailbox individually...This can REALLY take up some space when folks get chatty, but it saves me going into Yahoo just to check up on whats going on there.....Also I keep up with the local Gerbie goings on this way as I seem to live right in the middle of "critter central" & quite a few active locals always post on the AGS site including my good friend Donna Anastasi who lives just a couple of miles down the street from me!! lol If you want a good laugh, go into the AGS Archives on the Yahoo Group...Look up a Post by Donna called "Gerbil CSI"...Actually it was "Chinnie CSI" but she named the Thread & told the story which is pretty cute just as it is LOL....I was sometime in early May if memory serves me correctly, it really happened too LOL

Exactly what I do, and how I feel.
I will check your archives as time permits.

I have rarely needed to use a Havahart to catch a gerbil. I tyalk to them and they either come over or don't try real hard to escape. How does a chinchilla vanish? Rather large aren't they? I thought "CSI" meant you had a corpse to look at! >> It was the opposite. He never looked better - fat with sleek soft fur and seemed rather relieved to be captured and once I put him back in his cage he let me stroke his head and ears for an uncharacteristically long time. Kecia was so awesome this whole week both continually telling me he was fine and even making a personal housecall. I'm smiling big tonight. << So no corpses. I was worried! Dion, a very cute haster, even by hamster standards, was not quite tame when he escaped from his mom and me. I guess he was five weeks. He was around for ten days, loose. I was SO frustrated when I could bqrely see him under a sofa with no more than two inches of room. I could barely get my head down low enough to see him. I finally heard him in an empty flower ot on its side with food. I quickly righted it after sneaking up on him, and had him! The only critters that have vanished were several wild agouti mice, born to very tame fancy girls. It is all in the Mice forum, if interested.

I was visiting my good friend Donna Anastasi AGS Vice Pres. last night picking up a Gerbie for my DPP project, hopefully the little lady I got IS a DPP LOL...I am in question on that one just yet LOL, she is a DOLL irregardless.....Anyhoo, I brought up how much Fun I was having here and also the question DF has asked as to anyone having Posted this question before as to Lilacs being larger than Doves on the AGS Board, she said she didn´t believe the question was ever asked on the Group, she also answered as i did that she found No dramatic size difference in any Doves she has ever seen, other than my Goliath being HUGE LOL....But then he is big in comparison to a lot of Gerbils no matter their color LOL
He he I´d like to have a Hawaiian style Barbecue, with Tiki Torches & such, think I could talk the big "G" into playing the Bongos for us? LOL.....Maybe my Aussies could serve horderves? LOL.....Oh my..this heat here is getting to me LOL!!

Whoops, I don´t know how missed the CSI stuff you asked about DF......NO Corpses!!......Just a VERY "sneaky" chinchilla & well Donna has a BIG House LOL!!...Also their chin "Lawrence" is "Violet" color, which is actually a slate kind of Grey with a Purplish hue in sunlight, so BOY did he blend into the Shadows!......I actually had to tell them to turn off their lights in the house early & start prowling with Flashlights, this is how we found him, he made his way ALLLL the way downstairs & was hiding in an entertainment center!! lol right under a Tank of Gerbils!! I told them he was looking for "little friends" LOL
My chinnies don´t hide like Lawrence did, he is particularly "sneaky" as i mentioned LOL....If a chin of mine gets loose my Dogs track it down quickly & it usually sits just out of our reach grooming itself & laughing at us watching it, till I grab the handle of my Butterfly net & scoochy it over so I can reach it!

The CSI forensics shows invariably include lots of corpses.
Chinchies sound like a little trouble. But good as pets? Recommendations?

I Highly recommended Chins as Pets especially to one who loves rodents, YES they are expensive, BUT then it takes 111 days to make often just one "kit", a litter of triplets is actually a big litter, yes they can have 4 even 5 babies at a time but often they don´t all make it even with supplementation, then it takes another 8-9 weeks for them to wean & be ready to go to a new Home....they are VERY Intelligent, I think as smart as Ferrets but not as troublesome to other creatures AND not NEARLY as odorous!! Chins are VERY VERY clean, I prefer them very much to Rats, as i find the Rats droppings "sour smelling" no matter how clean they are kept...Also Chinchillas can live even up to 20 years, though commonly they live about 10-12 years, most Rats unfortunately are plagued by Tumors even at just 1 1/2 years old, I don´t care to give up my little friends this quickly so chinnies are good for me!!.....Chins DO have SUCH DARLING personalities! They learn pretty easily to jump right out into their owners arms, love riding on your shoulder or sitting on my head LOL!!...They really act a LOT like a Giant more sophisticated Gerbil!!

>> most Rats unfortunately are plagued by Tumors even at just 1 1/2 years old, << Yea. My biggest rat concern. So chinchies are friendly? Do they BOND as rats do to people? They are of the Order rodentia.

You know I need to enable whatever it is that lets me know a Post of mine has been responded too....Yes I know I should put this in Forum Problems or whatever, but babbling right here seems like the right thing to do at the moment LOL....I figure the other stuff out later lol
YES I would say Chins DEFINITELY "bond" to a person, especially if you get one from a young age....They even can get to know & respond to their names.....Yes they are Rodents...Giant Gerbils actually, same family.....Just they got the better deal on the Fur....Ooooooh SOOOOo soft!! I bet a Chinnie would LOVE your Beard DF, they are always Grooming my eyelashes, licking them even...wonder if I need cleaning to them ?? LOl...Bet they´d like to toss me in the Dust bath LOL.....They are Charming though, the problem is one might never see their "best side' in a Pet shop, they really "shine" in a private home much better!!

That was very informative! Yes, I'd like one, when possible.
