That Lilacs seem to be heavier than Doves? All my Lilacs are heavier, than the doves. Whether they are femal or male. I just finishned cleaning some cages and picking them up that is when I noticed this. I don't see many Lilacs or Dove gerbils on this forum But if you ever had any did you find this too ?

I looked it up again and from what I understand Nibbles is sapphire she has gray in her, I don't know if all my doves are sapphire or not, but I know she is. My lilacs are poor coloring because of the biege circles around thier eyes. I don't care what they say my lilacs are just as pretty as those show lilacs. if not prettier

Sapphire is supposedly a newer color coming in between dove and lilac. I got two young ones that color so it is becoming more common. This is Marge (sapphire) sleeping on top of Doreen. >> That Lilacs seem to be heavier than Doves? << I don't have any lilacs.

aww.. she is so cute ,my lilacs do seem to be heavier anyway my doves don't look like your sapphire, I looked it up yesterday and they are in between dove and lilac thats what I got out of it. Nibbles was white when I first got her, this past year she is getting lilac in her too. It's confusing to me though my eyes aren't what they used to be one of my little lilacs looks lighter after a bath so maybe she is changing also.

When I got a "cream" pup and she started getting "dark" I thought I had the first ever cream-colored siamese! No, Laurel was a nutmeg molting, as I later discovered. (Her photos are up).

Excellent photo indeed. So Marge (described above) is indeed a sapphire. Right?
I don't think I have ever SEEN a lilac.

I have all three then, those gerbils looks like mine do. Scrappy who I said looked like a dove when she gets a bath looks like the sapphire one. I think she is the only one that does that Thanks for the picture it clarified everything for me

Uh oh....I´m going to have to disagree on this one....I have a REALLY big Sp Dove male named "Goliath"....He is actually featured in the 2006 Gerbil Calendar that Donna Anastasi (ABC Gerbs) & Ellen Bellini (her sister &photographer) made...Goliath is "Mr. February" LOL...He has also sired many a Show winner & has an AWESOME personality as do his children....Goliath & quite a few of his children are also on several of the pages of Donnas Book "Gerbils the complete guide to Gerbil Care" published by Bowtie press...The "Big guy" and his family are on page 10, also his daughter "Lila" is right opposite the Table of contents....Also sons Max & Lightning are there on pgs 84 &85...just to name a few of the pics my guys & gals were featured in.
When I "found " Goliath....I actually got him at a Pet store lol...But he is a "find' for sure....He was SO BIG I nearly dropped my teeth, I started to jump around like a little kid!!...I HAD to have him!!....It was SO funny when I brought him home he wasn´t used to my place & started thumping, he sounded like someone was playing the Bongos!!! NO kidding LOL...I even had friends asking "what is that sound?" lol....Did we laugh when I told them it was my new Gerbil!!.....Oh & his Dove offspring are big too, not just him.

>> he sounded like someone was playing the Bongos!! << Funny story. I have had gerbs of slightly different size, but I never noticed anything dramatic. It does seem like those that are in the same tank end up the same approximate size.
