I posted about this before. And now I am just back! I am back an hour ago from the Meet the Breeds extravaganza at the Jacob Javits Center. This is the biggest ever professional gathering of pure bred cats and dogs, 171 varieties, and each breed there usually has half a dozen dogs/cats of that breed. It was like the AKC and CFA shows combined except better as there is far more room than at MSG, each breed has its own elaborate display area, and many non-AKC breeds were shown. There were also various displays, activities, freebies, rings, contests, etc. And only $12. Many friendly folks to chat about their critters with. There were also adoption groups there. I had a blast, and have 550 photos to process. The many chihuahuas were very cute as was their elaborate display area, and so any other breeds. BTW, a number of the dog owners said they hate the Westminster Kennel Club show at Madison Square Garden as the benching area is so crowded and they have to stay with their dogs. Some owners do not even compete there. www.akc.org/meet_the_breeds/

That sounds like it would be fun! What types of breeds did you see, both AKC registered and non-AKC registered?

Remember, this was very different from the AKC dog show or CFA cat show at MSG. It was better! Much more room and large display areas for each breed each decorated appropriately, such as the Siamese cat one had a lot of stuff on "Lady and the Tramp" with those cats in it.
I will not tell you the non-AKC breeds as you will first see the photos. I just watched a long Yankee so time is short.
What AKC breeds did I see? There were well over a hundred there. What I can tell you is a few breeds did not show despite having areas for them: Neapolitan Mastiff and Polish Lowland Sheepdog, for example. I did not see even a display area for the Belgian Malinois or Tervuren, although the Sheepdog was there. Did not see even a display area for the Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever. But there were over a hundred there including one that said they are going to be approved for next year, although they are not on the AKC list as of tonight.
I would have need three more hours to see and talk to everyone I wanted! You will see by the photos, when I get to them.
Look for my thread I will put up soon about fur, hair, an allergies. I got many good answers from the breeders.
