So many gerbil fanatics in one place! I was looking for the winners of the AGS show, and found this. But no gerbil photos. Where are their pictures? This is not exactly adequate: Hmmm. Anyone want to try to convince me to join the AGS? Should I take the plunge?

Have them post their photos! Maybe I will e-mail Morrow about that. Well? Should I cough up a big twenty bucks (ahem) to join? I suppose if you've been there for four years it can't be worthless! Buenos Aires? I hope they at least saw all the touristy sites in NH - if any. Hmm. . . www.visitnh.gov/>> Always Something to Experience Everything from family attractions and theme parks to the great outdoors awaits you throughout New Hampshire. To find out more about what each region has to offer, choose from the list above to find activities throughout the state. Visit one of New Hampshire's many state parks, go downhill or cross country skiing; visit a waterfall; visit the Museum of New Hampshire History or one of the many other museums and historic sites that New Hampshire has to offer. The options are endless! << "Endless"?? Well, Okaaaay. . .

Well I´m a little late to respond on this one .....I just figured i´d fill you all in for next year!! It was a GREAT Show on 5/20....with the exception I couldn´t kick any Butt due to having Mites GRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr....I HATE little BUGS!!
Anyhoo......In Nashua where the Show was held we don´t really have anything touristy in our immediate area, you have to travel nearly an Hour for tourist sites from here......We are very close to the Massachusetts border, there are LOTS of places to Shop Tax Free here....Also we DO have some cool old Cemetary´s LOL.....Also some VERY Lovely conservation areas to Hike in,one of which is particularly interesting as it was "nearly" a town, but never actually got to be a town, the land where it is is now State forest & conservation area, it is VERY cool, but not real well known,.. maybe my Aussies & I should offer tours of "Monson" ( the name of the almost a town LOL) next year LOL??.... Otherwise though one does have to travel nearly an Hour for those things New Hamphshire is known for.....Although we do have a Historical society of sorts, I don't know that it is very impressive? Besides Gerbiling takes up a HUGE amount of everyones´ time & energy, then we all go out for Supper after the Show...after that we drop dead from exhaustion !! lol......Didn´t you all know it is just the Ghost of me writing all these posts LOL....Just kidding, although the Show is REAL tiring but FUN!!

Mites were a horrible plague for me until the rescue lady (See Animal Rescues; Sean Casey's group) told me of Sevin powder, cabaryl. Permethrin is another similar option. Always be sure your tank has good ventilation. It was a Godsend for me. I tried it after "8 in 1" Ultra Care spray apparently caused spasms in my beloved Crystal; she recovered and looked normal, but died four days later. Sprinkling a little in the bedding (say, a tablespoon in a 15 gallon tank) and mixing it in is a great prophylactic against mites. When doing a health check on gerbs, do you hold them briefly by the tail base? Seems safe and it is surely the best way to take a look down there. Suggestions? That reminds me. . . who does conventions in Nashua?? Who picked that place and why? Brooklyn has a couple of great new hotels, the Marriott for example. I can show you the sights. What are you guys so tired from? Picking up gerbils? Seriously. Today I loaded fifty 25 pound boxes and crates from my apartment to the basement to the truck to my storage unit on the fourth floor. I packed it so neatly there is STILL a lot of room in this 6x6x8 foot room, and I did the same thing yesterday. I HAD to take time to spend the day doing this. I then walked a mile home and started the laundry (three loads), went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the stepper, went home, put the laundry in the dryer, went back to the gym and did 20 minutes on the bike on ten on situps and crunches, and I then got the laundry. And I'm not tired. The wonder of vitamins - or endorphins?! (I did not do any weights as lifting those boxes was all I needed). Actually, my right bicep is slightly sore - very unusual. Yes, I might soon be in the running for Best Bicep on the Forum. I do have competition! So, the answer? Why are you tired picking up gerbils? (I'm not trying to diss; I am just asking). >> ......Didn´t you all know it is just the Ghost of me writing all these posts << Then you should enjoy the Cemetery threads.

I have Fibromialgia, makes me tired and soar easily, also i had to do a LOT of loading & lifting, LOTS of equipment to bring, just adds to things when i have to do them faster than usual, I "pace myself" otherwise & get lots done despite the Fibro, but I have to take breaks & couldn't at the show! Sad thing is one would never know to look at me, at least when i feel like coming out in public, when I´m extra tired I stay home & putter at my own pace with my critters. Yep I use both the Sevin Dust which I´m preferring to Permethryn powders, unfortunately the Bugs were a BAD surprise most likely due to the rain which I later discovered brought Wild Mice back into my House after i thought SURE I had them gone back in March!!!....friends are telling me the word is out that there are "Good Eats" for Rodents at my House!! Little "Free-Loaders" the wild mice that is!! lol Um well on the Show site....I found it LOL....I actually investigated 2 other sites before we got this one.The first choice was at a well known Convention Center in Manchester N.H. it was however SO Booked up before Schools got out that we would have been pushed into Summer, this is BAD for attendance as a lot of Families go & once schools get out folks change their priorities and dont attend the shows...This theory proved true at this Show as it had EXCELLENT attendance & Media coverage, last years Show in Rutland Vt. was SUCH a BOMB as to visitors & foot traffic, it was held June12th I believe, and foot traffic was non-exhistant.... Nashua was originally the site of the very first New england show...Nashua is VERY accessable to a LOT of active AGS members, the Holiday Inn where the Show was held is right off the Interstate & SUPER easy to find...Also it is reasonable financially for folks.....I happen to know the AGS would like to have yet a 3rd Show per year....N.Y. was the first choice of where to hold it, BUT N.Y. costs are MUCH higher for Renting convention space AGS has a limited Budget please undestand, also Hotels costs are very High for folks going, not only that we HAVE to have a place to "easily" Load & unload animals, not certain the Big city would accomodate this very necessary need?...Also until you just mentioned the offer of showing us where to go etc. there has been NO one in the N.Y. area willing to take on the responsibility of being "Show Co-Ordinator".....We are actually shooting for a Location in Pennsylvania for our 3rd Show site as we now have a couple of gals willing to help with co-ordinating the event, this takes a LOT more doing than one might think.....Please understand this is not written in stone as to a 3rd Show, it is more of a "wish" at this point but we are working on it........I´m working on getting to the Mid-West show myself this year, I´m still working on co-pilots & renting a BIG Van to make the trip....If there is room on the Bus want to come too??

Oh & on the Mite inspection sure a firm but gentle grip at the base of the tail works for the underside, blowing hair up & forward under a bright light for the top side of the animal as well, they also recommend wearing latex type gloves & wearing a white shirt while inspecting....I have tile floors in my critter room, so there are No carpets for pests to live in thankfully, also all my Tanks are on shelves so none are "stacked" which prevents good ventalation, I still used a "premise spray" actually I got a STRONG Permethryn Spray normally used only for Dogs & Horses, I used this on my House NOT the Gerbs, but any fumes that may have resulted seemed not to bother anybody, I of course took Great care Not to spray directly near any Tanks OR chin Cages, this was tricky but I did it!!

I once went to the Mongolian gerbil website and the admin almost freaked out that I used that dust, either kind. "WHO TOLD YOU THAT?!?!?"!! she shrieked out! So good to see you also use it. gerbilforum.proboards21.com. Ever see that place? Yea, rugs need maintenance. >> I have Fibromialgia, makes me tired and soar easily << Reminds me of the famous Italian song "Volare"! What was that guy's name again. . . Domenico Modugno? (I am a bottomless pit of trivia). Volare, oh oh. Cantare, oh oh oh! He basically sings about wanting to soar up to the clouds with his love. . . "Nel Blu di Pinto di Blu". That's all I can remember in Italian. I'm just kidding you!

"That's why they bite you!". God help me from people. Permethrin and Sevin have been Godsends to me. But I would worry about you breathing it in too much.
