Two nights ago he seemed a little "off". I pressed him against my ear and heard nothing. Eyes, nose, and butt looked good. Last night he was lethargic and had a somewhat wet butt. I isolated him from his cagemates, Petey, Telly, and Max, putting Rangi in a tank and in a box, which I knew he wanted. I found him dead several hours ago. It happens sometimes that fast. His former mates seem OK. Rangi was like his sister Kahini a smaller than normal black and white hooded rat, he and she were quite friendly and tame. They were also prone to dominating bigger rats by their exuberant behavior. He will be missed. Burials soon. When weather warms. Photos of him and some other deceased pets when I get the old PC repaired. This old laptop has no working USB port. RIP

So, Rangi is gone, but his three tankmates are fine. Although he had a "wet tail" it does not seem contagious. Any anyone comment?

It will be fortunate for all if the cagemates stay healthy. Fingers crossed. . .
Rest peacefully, Rangi.
Sorry for your loss, DF.

Thanks. And his tank mates are fine. So it indeed was not contagious. It happened so fast.
