As we know, in the Meet the Breeds photo gallery several dogs we are not sure of.
mtb4 - or did we ID him??
mtb37 has me still stumped.
Although now I've told you that mtb45 is a Mudi.
Oh, btw, I saw an unusual looking dog in the elevator yesterday - white and sort of like a Bichon. But he/she was not! What designer dog might look a little like a Bichon?? Care to answer? The correct answer is at the bottom of this post.
So, I am reading about the Hungarian dogs - Mudi, Puli, and Pumi. Over a hundred years ago they were considered the same breed. Pumis came from breeding the Pulis with a French or German type of terrier which gave a square outline, longer head, and livelier attitude.
Pumis do seem to be a dog that can do many things and have lots of fun, but needs tight control as all such active-minded dogs do. They retain the herding instinct. Seems like a great dog for those who are very active and enjoy outdoor activities and games with their dog.
There are 3,000 Pumis in Hungary, and 1,000 in Finland. (?) That is curious indeed as the only connection the countries have is that they are part of the same language group! Finno-Ugric! Go figure. There are hundreds elsewhere, too.
The Pumi and the Mudi are not AKC recognized (no doubt due to their limited numbers in the U.S.). The Puli is. This is why Meet the Breeds in October was so cool - seeing those types of breeds I would not see at the WKC show. I saw there the Finnish Lapphund (although somehow I took no photos - they were likely in crate), Leonberger, Cane Corso, Xolo, Cesky terrier, Entelbucher Mountain Dog, Lagotto Romangolo, Podengo Pequeno, Chinook, and among maybe others the Barbet - which might be one of the dogs in those photos.
BTW, at the WKC, the breeds that had the most dogs were the Australian Shephered and Rhodesian Ridgeback! 43! Labs had 42. The ONE Dandy Dimont terrier won the breed class by default! But they are all champions there so he/she still looked good!
Here is a breed I definitely did not see at MTB - Bergamasco. The Spanish Mastiff was another. Russian Toy I also did not see - could never forget those ears!
As for that unusual looking dog I saw in the elevator I at first thought was a Bichon? The one I mentioned above?
The dog is a Pomeranian-Poodle mix! A PomPoo!
