Noticed tonight he has a dime size bump on his back top of it, It isn't hard and not squishy just there, he walks fine and doesn't seem to be in any pain. He is one of the first inbreds I had. I came on here to see if anyone else has noticed this on their gerbils.
UPDATE on my baby pups, there are two males and one female they are almost 5 weeks now, next week I can get another tank and separate them before there is more babies, that would be terrible for me right now if that happened. Checked them 3 times the other day and will check each of them again next week to be sure they are what we said they were. No more seizures from anyone since the first one. They are kind of aggressive I'm not sure why they have been picked up alot so they should know we are'nt edible lol the bites are hard. I can only think of one reason and it is because they are not good gerbils, they are a product of double inbred breeding, that is all I can come up with. like I said before I can't give them away or even sale them because I know this. But in the end I couldn't do it anyway. But from now on they will be let known they can not bite anymore, they are not little babies anymore, and they should know we won't hurt them and to be scared of us.

Never saw that on a gerbil. Saw an small abcess lump on a jaw though. (See my "Wonderful Pus" thread from a few years ago). Had one inbred (accident) Syrian hamster, Stanley, who had a lump on his back, big as a nickel. Probably benign. His mother died of Cushings Disease, and he apparently had it too, but died early; no need for euthanasia. He was jet black, and his sister, Blanche, all white (except the ears). She also died before her time. I guess that is the result of inbreeding. >> But in the end I couldn't do it anyway. << Yea, I know. >> But from now on they will be let known they can not bite anymore, they are not little babies anymore, and they should know we won't hurt them and to be scared of us. << The only gerbil I ever had, Luke, who would not permit handling and even bit me when I was putting food in the bowl might have been just an oddity, or a problem as you described. He has passed away, but he might have also had a tough earlier life.

what is cushings desease? I think I am just going to wait and see what happenes with him I can't take him in right now, but as long as he is able to move like he does I am not going to put this worry on me right now. I have 7 inbreds and 3 are double inbred I wish I had noticed braveheart in the beginning of the separations, it is hard to tell it really is . But with the last 3 we have made sure and will check again and again to make sure we got it right this time. this is not fair to them because they will be unhealthy and probably not a long life span.

That is awful I almost went to tears when I saw her like that. Gerbils can get that too I hope not. Giacomo seems fine right now, just keeping an eye on him, thats all I can do now for him. I do think I am going to look more into this

I have not specifically heard of gerbils getting it, but maybe so. As you may have read, it is somewhat treatable - in dogs. Very sad situation. and the idiot vet who did not treat her properly got reported to the State government for malpractice. They busted his chops and he is on report. Oh, and it was the great Kane who first identified her condition when I posted the photos here. The stupid vet did not have a clue. I should have gotten more recommendations from pet stores and others before I went to him on the recommendation of another vet's receptionist!

Thats so sad though when I looked at her it was upsetting and I can imagine how you felt during her illness. My vet does have experience in the exotic animals and I trust him, I am very proud to say my son will also be a small animal doctor when he grows up, he is 13 now He loves animals as I do and now that we have gerbils he wants to protect them and heal them My doctor treats all animals but at least I know I have someone who I can go to when my babies are sick . I'm glad that doctor got into trouble and now he can't do that again, to anyone else. Giacomo's bump is gone now, or isn't visible to the eye.
