I have a male mouse incoming... eta 4-5hrs. One of the animal shelters in my area had a male fancy mouse surrendered. Apparently some of the volunteers found his musk offensive and moved his cage into the storage shed. One of the ladies on staff (who also volunteers/fosters with SARS) was worried about him and long story short, asked if I could take him in. Of course I said yes! The only thing I know is that he's a red-eyed-white. Hopefully he's tame.
In other news, Spyder is one spoilt mouse! I was grooming the buns and she hadn't been out yet, so she climbed up her hammock and started gnawing on the top of the tank. I looked over and she was climbing ACROSS the bars at the top to where the door is! When I was done with the bunnies I went to get her and she was up my sleeve before I had the door fully opened! She's decided that the space between the hood of my sweatshirt and the crook of my shoulder is her designated sleeping area. If I have my hair up she'll try to burrow into my ponytail (that only happened once, now I leave it down when I have her out). Some nights it's a fight to get her back INTO her tank! She'd much rather be out with me.

Thart's great of you to take on the little male mouse, I cannot believe they put him in a shed How about clean his habitat? haha, that's so cute, little Spyder. I'd be affraid handling such a tiny mouse, which is kinda odd being I have no trouble with dwarf hammies, and Happy used to sleep in the crook of my arm.

Sounds good. I just added and locked a thread about ODOR CONTROL to the top of this forum. Feel free to pass it around. Have fun with Spyder, but be careful. If a rodent ever reaches the floor they may instinctively hide even if they know you.

That's good that the little mouse will be receiving a loving home with you. I bet by the time this month (or the next) will be over, this mouse will be spoiled too, hehe. Spyder sounds too cute. I remember when Benny, my dwarf, used to climb into my shirts too although she wouldn't go as far as Spyder would.

Spyder is OLD (she's the last of a batch of year-old that were dumped last summer) and is very geriatric. She doesn't try to climb down me; she likes to be on top of everything. The furthest down she's ever climbed is the seat of the couch. The floor smells like bunny and she's PETRIFIED of them, so I don't think she's going near there any time soon! I've had enough escaped hamsters over the years that I do my best to not let them out and hide. I figure she's so old and has been through so much, 'least I can do is give her what she likes.
The new mouse is here, his name is Glad (because he was dumped at the shelter in a garbage bag). He's missing the end of his tail. Vet said he's healthy, just needs to put on some weight. He didn't have bedding, just a towel laid down in the bottom of his cage and some hamster cotton in a house. I've not noticed any smell since I put him on actual bedding. I'm switching him over to the bigger cage tonight. I put a wheel in and he's still trying to figure out how to work it. He is NOT used to being handled so I'm going to let him settle in for a bit before I start working on taming him.
Glad has made Spyder want to pay less attention to me. She's always sniffing the air and rubbing her ass against the tank wall next to his cage. It's pretty hilarious, she's too old for that!
