Whizzer 1998-2010Devoted Companion, Best Friend, 4-legged-fur-Child On the evening of Friday July 9th, Ryan and I had to make the devastating decision to say goodbye to our little girl, Whizz. Whizz was 12 years old, we had had her for 6 years and the past two years we had been dealing with diabetes. Whizzer became blind soon after being diagnosed when it was finally figured out she was immune to Canine insulin. Blindness never stopped her from running down the road, or playing like a goofy pup even at the age of 12. Though Whizzer did not like dogs after a brutal attack she was victim of with her past owner, she couldn’t have been any more loving to all other creatures. Whizz had a way with animals, and they somehow sensed that and were never frightened of her, no matter the species. She loved cats, and would groom and care for ones she met. Her favorite rabbits were Rex bunnies, and Bo bunny was her ‘boyfriend’ as she loved to rough house with him, groom him and try to steal his treats. Bunnies were her favorite ‘Pez Dispensers’, she’d follow them around, when they’d stopped she’d tap them on the butt with her nose for another ‘treat. Whizz attended agility classes with me in her younger days, where she excelled. Her favorite obstacle was the tunnel. We knew she would like Agility since she enjoyed jumping our 6 foot fence, out 3rd story windows and a small camper window just to be with us. Whizz wasn’t afraid of thunder, gun shots or fire crackers. She would ride our ATV with us, as she was a bit of a lazy princess dog. She had her own room in our house with a couch and radio of her own. She wouldn’t go outside if it was to cold, to hot, raining or snowing and that included going to the bathroom, she’d hold it! We’d have to dig a path in the snow to the grass so she had a place to do her business. Though when it came to playing in the snow like a lunatic, that was a whole other ball game and she loved it, especially when she was wearing her waterproof red doggy coat. Baths and nail clippings were not her favorite thing at all, though she loved AFTER a bath where she’d run around the house happier then can be, bounding up and down the hall. Whizz was ever so helpful when it came to catch feral bunnies, she was named ‘Rabbit Rescue Dog’ after her first outing. “Where’s the Gerbil?” and off she was sniffing out the bunnies. Because of Whizz I was able to catch Aniseed our bunny, who became Whizzers good friend. (I used Whizz to find escapee gerbils in our house way to many times to count, hence “find gerbil”.). She never stole food off the tables, never begged at people eating (though small children's hands holding hot dogs were fair game when camping), she never barked or bit, wrecked furniture or things like shoes and rarely had ‘accidents’ in the house. Even with the few negative issues we dealt with those would never outweigh what a wonderful companion she was. I am sure that everyone who had ever met her can say she was an amazing dog who will be greatly missed. I love you Whizzy, Mommy & Daddy’s hearts are broken now, but I know one day we will be together again, as the happy family we had been for 6 years. Thank you for every memory, I hope we gave you everything you ever wanted (except for the cat, I’m sorry I was allergic). More photos and such can be found on Whizzer's web site - thewhizz.weebly.com/

Aw, Andrea that was a very sweet message about Whizz. She will be missed and again I'm so sorry about you losing her. It's always hard when a pet goes and they've been with you a long time. I hope you're holding up well and I know you've probably been told this, but it does help to think of the happier times with her. She was a beautiful dog. *hugs to you*

I will read this in detail later when my eyes stop tearing up. You know what I mean. And my own recent loses makes it worse. I may send you an e-mail something, but not the same card. More later, when I can manage. . .

An absolutely lovely tribute, Andrea.
Whizz was one of the most amazing animals I've ever known or "known".

OK, I read it all. Very lovely tribute. Charming stories. I will say more later. So, she caught gerbils and bunnies in her mouth? How did you come to get Whizz when she was six?

Oh no, never caught in her mouth. She would sniff them out for us, so we knew where they were and could grab them ourselves. I think it it hadn't been for her, I would have never seen some of my gerbils again LOL Same thing with rabbits, she's show us where in piles of rubble, or brambles where they were hiding.
We adopted Whizz from my Fiances ex girlfriend actually. She had passed Whizz around after her parents told her she could not keep the dog at their house, and she couldn't have a dog where she lived (Then DON'T get a dog!... anyways). If we had not taken her in, she would have gone to the SPCA, and with her dog aggressive issues, I'm not sure she would have faired well there.

Did she freeze and POINT at the gerbil when she found one? You fall in love with her at first sight? - - - - - - Did the gerbs and rabbits sense some kind of amiable good vibes from her? They never seemed scared. BTW, I have never lost a gerbil permanently. Escapes have become extremely rare in recent years as I know what they all are capable of. For those who missed it, this is Whizzer's website: >>http://thewhizz.weebly.com<< I assume it will be updated. Maybe I will add some poems and stuff later. . .

Naw, she didn't really point, she would stop and her tail would wag crazy lol. I did think she was a beautiful dog when i first met her, but wasn't sure what to think of her. She wasn't technically my dog. All animals seemed to sence good vibes, some of my Gerbils and Degus have tried to ride/sit on her even. You've seen Bruces pictures where he likes to eat his treats with her. I've not lost an animal permenently, but i am sure for some it would have taken longer if I hadn't had to to help me. I have a large house, so there is a lot of space to hind. As for updating her site. I am not sure I will soon. it's still a bit hard for em to deal with. It's been just over a week now, and i am actually doing pretty good, but I don't try adn think about her much i don't want to be sad.

Get to it when you can. I understand. I have not added or sent anything yet for that same reason.
Whizz was a very nice-looking dog.

I have heard young animals have a different chemical makeup. I think Warren Eckstein said Saturday that kittens are non-threatening to older cats because they smell or sense something, more of a certain element perhaps, that puts them at ease. That might be the same with how animals interact. See the cat/fawn video I put up last night.

I have not forgotten. I was looking for a nice poem; maybe this one. . .
Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time. Here, come sit beside us for awhile . and let me tell you about this old friend of mine. ...She might look tattered or maybe old But I won't say goodbye until you've been told. She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen, And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out shine a queen . She was never prissy but walked with an aire ...... And oh so polite, you could take her most anywhere. She could run like the wind and could catch anything she chased But she protected and sat with me when I had problems to face. You could not find a friend nearly so dear. Because no matter the trouble she always stayed near... She has never asked for much from me; Just to love and respect her and I think you'll agree . To give her a good meal plus a nice warm bed is not much to ask ; When she has given me all her love and to her this was no task. Now I understand you have a schedule to keep. But I have a small favor before she nods off to sleep. Please fold your wings around her and let her feel young while in no pain ; Dear Guardian Angel of Pets , please keep her safe and happy until I see her again.

Andrea, Beacause of your post to me, I had to seek out Whizz. What a beautiful doggie!!! We even went to her site to see more pics. The pic of her with the black kitten makes me smile cause Rhythm was black. I don't think I have ever read a memorial and smiled the whole way through. You really captured her personality and shared it with everyone. I can see why you miss her. She is a dog that I would have liked to know, and because of you I do. What a great little princess! I am sorry that she is gone but a selfish part of me is happy to know that Rhythm will have a wonderful friend. Hugs to you and I hope that time has healed your heart, even if just a little bit.

So true. See Andrea's tribute to her rabbit, Bo, from some months earlier.
I sent her an e-card after Bo passed away, and a poem after Whiz died, but there isn't much more I could say that was needed as she captured her essence so well.

It is a little raw for me too. Not comparably to you, but I am wiping a tear right now having seen her photos again. For real.
