Very moving. And I believe the dogs felt something that day cause I heard people say the dogs would get sad because they kept finding deceased people, so others would hide and when the dog found them they would be praising the dog (s). They had to raise the dog's spirits as well.

Keep in mind some dogs DIED in the 9/11 attack. The most famous was the K-9 Sirius, who died at the World Trade Center. His name is included on the T-shirts and stickers with the names of the Port Authority police officers who died on 9/11. Here's an article on a dog run named after Sirius at Battery Park City, a co-op complex a few blocks from the trade center. www.downtownexpress.com/de_112/do…I do not know if any pets died on the planes. That's very sad to think about. You are right, dead birds were all over the place, and by the night of September 11, Jersey City police had to close off a few blocks around the Exchange Place PATH station because hundreds of rats had escaped death by running from the WTC through the PATH tunnel under the Hudson River and were coming up into J.C., so a lot of those rats survived. Hardy little suckers. Also, since you like animals, you might like to know that residential places like Battery Park City were evacuated and the people were not allowed to go back to get their pets. A group got permission to go down there and rescue people's pets, had them checked out to make sure they were OK, and set up a system to get them back to their owners. One of the people who lead and worked on this effort was the actress Rue McLanahan, who played Blanche on the TV show "Golden Girls". There weren't many animals in the World Trade Center other than police dogs and service dogs. Here is a story about a WTC survivor dog. Salty finally retired about two years ago and died last year. archive.southcoasttoday.com/daily…I should add the City Hall Park squirrels a few blocks away survived. I know that for a fact as I was there and know people who tended to them.
