At Coney Island Labor Day. (Photos later).
Made a point after fish and chips at Nathan's to seek out the PETA crowd protesting the circus nearby.
Only one was a little extreme--hated the idea of housecats doing tricks! And there was an act with them in the circus; I found it cute and harmless. The CFA has no problem with it (mentally stimulating), but she didn't like them either for "breeding genetic defects", supposedly.
But the point was TNR--Trap, Neuter, Return, of feral cats, and out maintaining of feral colonies, in which we also deal with any sick cats we see, that as numbers steadily are reduced.
I had been told Ingrid Newkirk--who runs PETA--OPPOSES TNR, AND advocates mass euthanasia. I found proof of the former on her site, but proof of the latter is a bit more iffy.
What was really strange was none of the four people I spoke to knew a thing about either issue, not even the objections to TNR. Stranger, they all claimed to PRACTICE TNR themselves!!
Eventually, they took an e-addy from me with the intent of finding some things out and contacting me. After all, such attitudes to feral
cats and TNR are worse than the alleged circus abuses, and some are not alleged as with certain issues re: the elephants.
When I got back I did some research online and PETA is up to some things I do not like, and which many condemn. The HSUS also took criticism from many of the dog people at last year's Meet the Breeds.
But that is another matter for another time.
Please check out these links. . .
