First, separate them. Second, go back to the pet store and get from the same tank as soon as possible a friend of the same sex for each. Gerbils are not supposed to live alone. The sooner you do this the more likely they are to not fight. If it is absolutely impossible for you to get two more gerbils (resulting in two ten gallon tanks with mesh tops, one for each pair), consider exchanging one for one of the same sex as the gerbil you are keeping. So, either way, you should go back to the store.. Ask the manager for help sexing them. Basically, males will have bulges, and two clearly separate openings (urthera and anal). The females may noit have a visible nipple line, but will not have the bulges (testicles), and will have two openings very close to each other. When you compare the different genders to each other the difference will be obvious. This will also help: www.gerbils.co.uk/gerbils/gender.htm

Male genitals are further apart then females. And young females nipples are usually more visible.

Gerbils are social animals so they do not have to live alone separately. Their litters are not even that big. So that is not a worry. Just remember, a 15 gallon tank is minimum space for three.
Any questions about anything please post them.

Oh yes, obviously, if they are the same sex there is no need to separate them.

Just keep us updated. The difference between a fatty gerbil and a preg. one is the preggers gerbil will look like she swallowed a ping pong ball, and she will be pear shaped.

I have a nutmeg and then a pied/mottled light nutmeg and a honey cream all which have amazing molting transitions, very cool to see.
To post a picture, they have to be uploaded online first (like Photobucket) and then you right click the photo, press on properties, and then copy the URL address. back on the forum press the button that looks like a picture or sometimes it says pic, and Paste the URL address in it.

Most photo hosting sites such as Picturetrail and Photobucket give you the full link for immediate posting.
When I first saw Laurel changing color I thought I had a tan/beige version of a siamese - their "points" darken as they mature. Gerbil people will think that is funny I thought that!
