I was walking past the pet store and saw a big furry white beautiful dog coming out. "Kuvasz?" Nope, a Great Pyrennes. I looked them over carefully at the Dog Show, and thought I had this figured out. But the owner explained the dog was not even two yet so was not full grown. Still, the shorter snout of the GPO should have given it away! Lovely friendly dog. Saw a GSD nearby. Their owners at the WKC show did not like the habit Police have for breeding them with Malinois to get a more compliant and more handleable dog, according to the folks I spoke to. I am still trying to figure out why the AKC and Pedidgree parted company this year. Someone told me it was over the company';s desire to help shelter dogs. If so, bad by the AKC.

We have a puppy Sammie at our complex and he's sooo adorable, that Pyr must've been too. Kuvasz are easy to tell as they're snout is narrower than a Pyr's.
Breeders do anything to gain money. There are so many "designer dogs" out there which is a joke to me. Why not just get a shelter dog? Or if you want a dog that's hypoallergenic, there are plenty of purebreeds out there too.
Malinois are awesome police dogs! So are GSD's, I'd like to see them use a Dutch Shepherd. Now they're cool!!

The complaint was that police breed them together resulting in "some kind of mutt". Ever wonder at what point such a dog would stop being called a mutt and would become a new breed?!
Dutch shepherds may be too rare?
Yes, shelters first. And there are plenty of pure breeds there.
We also have a Neapolitan mastiff in the area.
I need to work on my spaniel recognition! I could be better with them.
Nearby that store a fellow, old with a bad leg, sits with his Pit Bull/Staff. mix, Dutch. The dog is quiet friendly unless you pet him with your right hand. He has been trained to not like right hands!

Ever wonder at what point such a dog would stop being called a mutt and would become a new breed?! ^I don't know when that'll happen. Some "designer dog" breeders want their dogs to be known as purebreds, but I'm not sure if that'll happen. All dogs started somewhere though.
Dutch shepherds may be too rare? ^Perhaps, but I saw one one Animal Planet and he was from the US.
I need to work on my spaniel recognition! ^Really? Spaniels are easy.
its with his Pit Bull/Staff. mix, Dutch. The dog is quiet friendly unless you pet him with your right hand. ^That's weird. Staff mix....you must mean Staffordshire Bull Terrier because an AmStaff (or American Staffordshire Terrier is just another name for a Pit Bull).
I know those dogs can be very human/dog friendly, but I still don't trust them.

>>American Staffordshire Terrier is just another name for a Pit Bull). << Right. I got you. Must have been a mix of the other two.
You recall the temperament tests posted on RR. These dogs posted above average in getting along with people.
I have a photo of Dutch somewhere I will try to post when able. I spent much of the day arguing with Verizon and DTV. How I hate them. Bad service, incompetents, and they promise certain rates and services and do not deliver. There are big charges on my bill even they cannot explain on the phone! (They will call me back next week!). These are the people that took a month to get my landline and DSL working after the move, and that forced me to pay more for a cell phone. But I am venting!

I suppose people figure if a Yorkie bites you, so what? But IF a Pit bites you, yikes!
I don't much care for the coloring of the Dutch Shepherd, to be honest.

Dutch Shepherds look like GSD, maybe that's why they changed the color of them.
Not only that, but Pits have a bite index that's really powerful and were bred for fighting. They have this "lock jaw" reputation where they wouldn't let go of their prey. Most are probably bred out of that, but I'm not taking my chances.
A Yorkie, you could probably pry open the dog's mouth or do something to the dog to get it off you. A Pit? No matter how hard you hit the dog, it won't release.

Indeed. Locked. It was bad enough when a gerbil locked on me (an old story I posted here; likely still in that forum)- it was as if someone with a pair pf pliers was squeezing me. I had bruises!

Yeah and that was a gerbil. Now imagine a PB going after you. Oh in my other thread (with the dogs in the stories) I told what the certain names mean.
