This is getting annoying!!! Everyone I know is telling me how to own my hamsters!!! ''Don't handle tham too much, they'll get stress, and stress causes Wet-Tail ''!!! There's no fun for me in it anymore . Oh, wasn't it dosergirl that wanted a picture of Elf? Go To: http://www.petwebsite./syrianrearing.htm I don't really have a picture of him, ;D but he is a banded cream.

Ignore those people. hamsters love being handled if there handled gently and calmly. I have my lot out a few times a day for around ten minutes and they love the fuss. If the hamster is new, let it settle down for a few days before you start getting it used to being handled as that will stress it out.

As long as there is no health reason, they can both use the same ball. (just not at the same time, as you stated)

Ok!! But won't the other one get confused and think the other one is around because of the smell??

It's never bother my hamsters, but if you are unsure, you can always wash out the ball inbetween hamsters.

Technically i have 1 ball per hamster But in reality i'm always interchanging them I always give them a quick wash with a bottle brush and a little detergent, wash and dry with paper towel to use it right away or drip dry if you aren't going to use it for awhile. It's like my Martha Stewart tips!

Mightn't the hamsters be curious about the new smell?
If they're solitary, would that be such a bad stimulation?
I guess it'd be bad if they try to mark up territory, but otherwise, wouldn't they just try to explore for the new scent?

I'd avoid interchanging balls if the hamsters are solitary - ok for dwarfs that live together, but it might be stressful for lone hammys to suddenly encounter another's scent.
If you've got an animal safe disinfectant, a quick squirt between uses would do the trick. Only one of mine likes using the ball, so its not an issue for me anyway.
