CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD DOGI am watching on the National Geographic channel "Russia's Toughest Prisons". One of them uses this type of dog, which is huge. Unfortunately, the demeanor of the dogs in their kennels suggests they receive poor treatment. The GSDs I saw were well trained police dogs, but these looked just vicious. Maybe it was only as they were excited by the camera and strangers - they cannot be too vicious as they could not be handled or used, not safely. The prisons were very tough, and the worst criminals very obedient to the guards. One can only wonder how tough the guards get at any infraction.

Caucasian Shepherds are awesome dogs and a force to be reckoned with!! There are so many big dogs out there. They're also known as LGD or "Livestock Guardian Dogs". In my one 2011 story I had a Caucasian Shepherd in it named Aleksander (the way the Russians spell it). Her owner, Sura, was a Russian who escaped with her family to come to America. If you want to see common and rare breeds, check out wikipedia's list of dogs. This list is where I check out all dogs just for fun or for my next story: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dog_breeds^While the majority of dogs are there, some are still missing because of the enormity of dog breeds in the world. Enjoy!

Hate to see a dog looking that vicious, or at least barking and jumping like crazy in their kennels. I assume they could be very friendly to people. The prisoners were some of the most vicious in Russia.
Will keep that link in mind.

Yeah it's a pretty cool link! I use it all the time when either just looking for dogs in my new stories or just for fun and to remember what each breed looks like.
