Saw in the pet store today a notice for a bird - owner relocating. Called, and took a long bus trip to another part of Brooklyn. I now have a lovely mostly yellow parakeet. Came with cage. Photos when I can. . .

BTW, the woman who gave her to me is named Tana. That was the name of one of my parakeets in the past, curiously.
Sweetie has settled in nicely. Will try to get her more toys. The cage is a little small, perhaps.
Wonder if I should let her fly free, as the others do (except the finches)?? Opinions?

Welcome Sweetie! You should see if the other birds like her first before letting her fly around; you know maybe putting each one up to her cage if you can. *shrugs* Tana also means "wolf" in some Native American language.

Ah ha!
Yes, she is IN her cage next to the others, adjusting.

I may have mentioned this before, but I have a cousin named Tana.
Congrats on the new birdie girl!

Thanks. The Lovebird and Quaker, Felicity and Candy, were perched on top of the cage, Candy trying to peck. Not sure if this is all aggression or what?? Could be messy, though, so some newspaper has been put on the top to keep the others off. Sweetie stays in, at least for now. Any further word on letting her loose?

Will try to post a photo soon, at least a link to FB. Too busy to load to a separate site, not right now; maybe another time.

This link should take you to a photo of Sweetie. PHOTO HEREI am trying to discourage the other birds from perching on her cage by putting newspaper on it. Nails need trimming.

She also sings very nicely more than the others. The finches BEEP, the Lovebird sort of chirps, the Quaker makes a horrid noise sometimes (not too bad), the cockatiel is rather quiet (she is nesting on her eggs - sorry they won't hatch ). But the parakeet sounds nice.
