Welcome to the forum! My rabbit and two GPs were rescues; if they had been rats I would have rats now, and the only major rodent I don't have are rats. (I do worry about their short lives, apparently even shorter than hamsters). Impressive cage! Four levels? someone once told me they can eventually gnaw the bars so much as to cause metal fatigue breaking the bars. I guess that isn't true, huh? Your rats are very cute coming out of their pink blanket hiding place. Do they act like little dogs or what?

Yes, it is a large cage, not as large as the one I WANT to have for them, lol.
They rarely chew on the bars, though that is just my boys, not everyone elses ratties, I've heard of bar chewers. It is VERY bad as it can cause them to break or misalign their teeth.
Actually I have just come across a rattie that is 47 months old! If taken propre care of, and taken to the vet when needed they can be with us up to 4-7 years. Unfortunetly though, they can have lots of problems including heart disease and rear end paralysis (paralized, I can't spell it right now, lol). Head tilt (can be caused by many things, from a tumor in the brain, ear problems, stroke.) they may be here a short time, but leave a big hole when they go.
Alot of people say they ARE just like a little dog! They love their treats can come when called (though they sometimes also chose to ignore when being called, lol)
Yes, since they are boys, we got them something a bit more boyish (flannell, and dark blue fleecy material) for their hammocks and bedding.
And the thing you see hanging out of the hammock is actually another piece of material that they had dragged in there. If you look in the grey litter box, and down on the second level by the yellow box you will see the boys playing. And as said, this is VERY old photo, Now Neptune (blue split cap) takes up about 1/2 of the grey litter box when he is in it. lol

What about pooping outside the cage? A problem?

They generally don't. But I put their cage on the floor when they are out, so if they need to they can go back, eat drink, do their "business" and come back out to play.

Yes, that is the only problem I have with the rabbit cage, now recently moved into the bathtub: she can't come and "go" as she pleases, but it is just as well as once she "disappeared" for almost 24 hours! I have to give her less run of the house. Also now, I have to pick her up more and take her out and put her in, which I enjoy doing - very fluffy that bunny!

couldn't you just put a kitty litter box with her litter in her "Fave" cornor? It should be much easier than having to keep picking her up.

I will likely do that, as she currently has "vanished" again! She loves the dark little pathways to hide in! But she can't access her food which is in the cage, which she can't get to alone. The cage is staying there, for a number of reasons, but I can't leave food in some big pan outside the cage as it will get kicked about. We shall see. . .

You could attach a feeder bin to the wall somehow (or to a door or in a heavy ceramic dish), you could always hang a water bottle over the side of the tub so she can reach it.
I hope you find her!

I don't need to find her; she comes out when she pleases, or gets hungry. And she did, and she is in her cage now. Somewhere there must be a big pile of poop! I will find that too, eventually. ;D

There are pictures of Poppy in the Rabbit forum. She has been here just over a year, and was likely born in December '03.
