Gerbils have amazingly strong bites, also for their size.
I have a split screen going now, and I will switch them again this afternoon, side to side, and then in the evening for a bit, and then try to intro them UNLESS you think three days of this is insufficient. They do seem very cramped in half of a ten gallon tank.
I have posted that question of yours in different places. here are some responses:

I just LOVE this site:
www.curiosityrats.comI think they are mostly like mice, pretty easy to intro to each other, as long as you do so on a neutral enviroment, and clean throughly the cage and toys before putting them there together, but, unlike mice, males are social too... I think older males might be a bit more territorial than females, but, if done correctly, it can be done. Check out the site, it has tons of cool info. 8) Are you planning of getting rats?

Males are a tad trickier than females...particularly if they are around 6 months (when most males go through a stage of aggression)...my guys are about 7 months old, they can hardly tolerate each other, I couldn't imagine introducing them to another one lol.
A neutral area is always good...and a drop of vanilla on all the rats being introduced works nicely, too. And always remember: no blood, no foul. Let them wrestle all they want, unless anyone starts to bleed. Introducing a young rat to an older one is one of the easiest 'pairings', too.
Here's a prety good article on intros~

Introduce them in neutral place first...somewhere where the adult have never been before....like say the bathtub or kitchen floor
adults will most likely act like they dont even care that there's a new rat in the house....i mean, they'll sniff the little rat for a seconds and thats it.
Dont be fooled by that...Adult rats dont see baby/young rats as a threat so they dont really pay attention to them sometimes...especially since there're other new stuff to smell around...
I suggest you let them run around in neutral place a few times first.
Prepare a cage where you want all the rats to be together. Disinfect it. Put the new/young rats in there first for a few days so they can mark the cage with their smell......THEN put the adult rats in that cage. watch them VERY closely...add an extra food bowl in that cage just in case.
I suggest you pick a day when you know you'll be home all day to put all the rats together (when they're ready) And do it in the morning so you have the whole day to watch them and make sure there's not too much fighting.
Dont just stick them in a cage and then a couple of hours later leave or go to sleep.
sorry for long post lol
