Hoe much time should a rat get with his human daily? And is heavy wetting a sign of anything other than high spirits?
Bertrand marks my shirt front so thoroughly that I usually wear the same shirt with him for the entire week, changing shirts for play and changing back after. Any way to lessen rats' pissing urges?

DON'T wear a shirt where he already peed?
Get him happy and excited with play BEFORE you put him on your shirt?
Take the peed on shirt and put it in his cage when you start playing with him so that he hopefully goes on that before you pick him up?
With my GPs they rarely even poop on me let alone pee, although I am pushing my luck after 30 minutes!
The bunny can be a problem, but not with that. Once he calms down and starts walking on me he does have a knack for biting holes in my clothes!

Bertrand piddles on me whether I wear the pre-soiled shirt or not - better to preserve clean clothing. He seems to do so when he is excited -- at times when he is very tired, he just relaxes and lets me hold him. Just wondering if rats can be trained out of it.
Since I now work an 11 hour shift four days a week, I just want to see whether they can get by with less me-time, or whether I should go for less sleep.

You can't get him excited before he goes on you?

Doesn't stop the 'going.' He has gotten better with age, but I still get occasional 'happy trails.'

Now I am thinking of Dale Evans "going"!
