Not sure if this will work of not. The picture not the forums themselves because well...they obviously work, I can see them and stuff....yeah anyway. Introducing myself on here becasue it looks like no one posted on the rat forums since april and thats sad. I am new here and i have 2 rat girls named Hitomi and Hikari. They are sweet as anything and hopefully there will be a pic up there to show it I also have 4 rabbits, 12 guinea pigs, soon to be 2 chinchillas, 3 hamsters, 1 big not too swift dog and an insane amount of gerbils. I have gotten most of the large animals except the chinchillas and a couple of piggies as rescues from people who knew I liked rodents and didn't want theirs anymore. Furry Flowers told me about this site, just getting around to popping on here now. It looks cute ;D

Hi. Thank FF for telling you about us. Wow, time flies. Last rat thread was almost three months ago! I have long considered rats, and now that certain apartment issues are likely over I will consider it further. Please gve me the basics - for two female rats - that I should know. My main concerns are them disappearing in a cluttered room (but I am told they come back), gnawing on electric cords (no way I can potect them all (would have to limit their access to certain rooms), and pooping in the "wrong" place (but folks tell me that is not a big concern). I suppose my main concern deals with health. Most of my critters are rescues. Have six dwarfs coming in soon. Thanks for posting; best to Hitomi and Hikari.

i don't have too much trouble with my girls, they sit with me on the couch and watch tv and nap in my hair. I have a messenger bag from work I pop the two of them into with a towel tossed in and sit with them on the computer as well or do light housework. They haven't really tried to venture too far from me they like my company more than innanimate objects....plus I bribe them with treats cheerios are a favorite as are greenines dog bones (med size). My girls haven't tried to chew wires but Hitomi did shread an entire roll of paper towels one day and build a big nest under my computer monitor.
I have my two girls in a 20 gallon tank, I would like to give them something bigger or perhaps a nice wire cage but I haven't seen the one that just screams to me "this is the one for the girls!" yet. I make them hammocks out of fleece and bent paper clips for holders and give them cardboard boxes to chew and sleep in. They are amazing and easy to care for, I use aspen for bedding and other than when they were working on getting bonded they don't have much odor (they peed on each other to mark while getting used to one another...a litteral p***ing contest if you will lol) my girls were meant as snake food from a pet shop, Hitomi caught my attention first because she was missing an eye and the pet shop didn't know how it happened and I wanted to get her vet attention fearing she was in pain or suffering from an infection from a wound. Turned out it was just a birth defect but I am glad she came here the rats are easily one of my favorite citters. If you get a pair you will not regret it they are cuddly and inquisitive and meaty enough to snuggle with on the couch. Bathroom issues aren't bad they really hold it until I put them back in thier tank, they left a few poops and pees outside at first but they are surprisingly clean critters.
