Whoa, they are weird looking....color wise I mean. They almost don't look like rats because of their coloring. Maybe the pet store got it wrong, you know how they label hamsters wrong all the time (ex: panda, teddy bear, etc).

After major research I found out what they are! But I will wait and give some others a shot at voicing their opinions.

It took most of last night to find them online, and even after searching for "Images" and on the "Web", I only found ONE small site dealing with them as pets or with photos. Everything else, what little there was, was merely obscure scientific nomenclature. I at first was given the suggestion they are ACACIA RATS. You can do an Images search for them and find something because although rare, they are much less so then these VERY rare guys. Acacias have a somewhat similar shape, AND they have what looks like dark makeup around their eyes giving them a "goth" appearance to some! ;D So my guys, in the photos, are. . . NATAL RATS! Also known as "African Smooth-furred rats". The generic nickname is "dwarf rats". As adults these still growing critters will only ibe the size of gerbils. Yes, I have two now, the ones with the whitist heads. The remaining three already have homes assigned to them and are waiting to be picked up. I will post more on Natal Rats separately, but right now these calm cuties are hiding under a little cardboard box in their cage pressed against each other only their noses and eyes visible, both snouths right nextr to each other. So cute. This is one of the rarest rodents I have ever heard of being available for pets, far more so than, say, degus.

Each was $20.
But no one knew what they were or how unusual they are. I am sure if people did it would be more.
I am starting a related thread on this.
