I read this in a forum for a local small animal rescue. I got a kick out of the happy ending...
In December a woman stepped into a vet clinic in Kelowna wanting to euthanize 2 rats because
a) They were her son's rats b) They stink c) They were told that they only live a couple of years and now they are already over a year and are still going strong d) Their family members are from Alberta and are offended that they have pet rats e) They are interfering with her dating life f) The SPCA wants a surrender fee g) She doesn't want to give them away for free as they'd end up as snake food.
The vet luckily refused to euthanize 2 healthy rats and as it happens one of our wonderful volunteers works at the clinic and took the two girls home.
Samis and Keda are just wonderful, wonderful girls. As soon as you put your hand near them, they just shower you with kisses. We just can't believe that the family wanted to euthanize these wonderful ratties!
Today they went to a new home in Victoria. Their new family was so excited that they literally told everybody for weeks. When the co-workers found out that today is the day and that the rats were going to be dropped off at work, they actually threw them a baby...eh... rat shower!
Needless to say they will be spoiled rotten for the rest of their lives!
I'm so glad that we were able to help these girls!

Nice story. Ever since my rats were born here I can't stop smooching with them! Very friendly, and very gently. All people have to do is handle them to see that. They were a big hit at the RMCA site, also. Check it out: mischief.rmca.org/viewtopic.php?p=152015#152015

I also put up my Spiny Mice photos in the Cuteness forum, and my Natal Rats photos in the Rat forum. And yes, I CAN'T stop smooching them.

Very nice. I can't believe anyone would want to euthanize two healthy animals. Good thing they have a much better home now!
