Many of you may know Zeb, my male black bear Syrian born right here January 9th. It was a surprise litter, and his mom and nine sisters are also still here. He is an escape artist with the really big pom poms! Well, he finally did it. He somehow got loose during a long tank-cleaning session and got in wth his sister Makeeda!! He apparently committed the deed before I found him and got him out! I didn't even know she subsequently had the litter until I noticed the nest - with only three babies in it! Next day there were only two!! Well, it happens with new first-time moms. It gets even more surprising. . . both parents are black, and their grandmother is a panda bear Syrian. Grandfather unknown. But, one baby is all black - and the other pure white with pink ears! Not an albino; there are no albino Syrians. But that is the genetics - I was very lucky enough to get one to survive that had recessive genes from both parents making it white! As yet, the babies cannot be sexed by me, of course, having been born October 7th, I think. They are happy and healthy with their mom right now, and I will continue to think of names for them. I will accept suggestions for a name! Before the eyes opened! With her mom. I will try to post photos of the little black one soon.

That first photo of Blanche really reminded me of actor Karl Malden, who became a star in the play and then movie of "Streetcar Named Desire", whose main female character was Blanche!
When they were less than two weeks old and I was certain one was going to be all white I was very pleased!
